SAFF Canada South Asian Film Festival Oct 31-Nov 4th

Surrey604 is proud to be the official Digital Media Sponsor for the 2012 SAFF Canada‘s South Asian Film Festival.  The first ever South Asian Film Festival will take place in Surrey, Vancouver, and Abbotsford from October 31st – November 4th 2012. Countries with submissions this year include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and the Maldives. Surrey604 is very excited to bring you all the latest on SAFF events within the next month as well as during the festival.  If you are a lover of South Asian Film or want to experience it for the first time, come out and support SAFF Canada’s global project right here in Surrey!

Pat Bayes Executive Director of SAFF Canada, says the festival will be a wonderful celebration, showcasing the latest documentaries, dramas, shorts, features and animation from the South Asian family of nations.

“Our goal is to share stories, build social and cultural bridges between the South Asian community and all who love cinema and share an interest in the world-at-large. The festival provides a platform for superbcinematic programs from South Asia and offers opportunities for professional networking between Canadian and South Asian film artists.”

There will be daily screenings in multiple locations in Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford as well as master classes and public forums with South Asian artists and their Canadian counterparts aimed at encouraging dialogue, discussions and debate.

Besides bringing an impressive line-up of films to Metro Vancouver, the festival will also see a long list of well-known actors, actresses, dignitaries and filmmakers attend. Indian actress and honorary SAFF patron, Jaya Bachchan will be on hand October 31 to introduce the Opening Night Gala film ‘Adwait Sangeet’ – “Two Voices One Soul,” a story about world-renowned classical music singers and brothers Padmbhushan Pandit Rajan and Padmbhushan Pandit Sajan Mishra. The two brothers will be performing live after the film debut.

In addition, international artist Shiamak Davar is behind the choreography for both SAFF opening and closing nights.

SAFF Canada is also excited to promote the SAFF Canada Global Memories Project, an interactive component to the event that will celebrate South Asian film.

“We are encouraging everyone to submit a video or written memory of the first time they saw a South Asian film. They can upload their own two minute video on our website, www.saffcanada.org. They don’t need to be of South Asian background to have wonderful memories.” – Pat Bayes, Executive Director SAFF Canada

We are very fortunate to be involved with a project that promotes global connections through the arts. The Global Memories Project is our chance to participate in a movement to promote connections through the memories that art creates. Whether it be your first experience with Bollywood or a classical South Asian film with your family, visit the SAFF Canada website and share your memories.

Opening and closing night gala ticket packages go on advance sale on Saturday, September 29th and can be purchased at www.saffcanada.org or www.northerntickets.com
