STAFF AT JRG RESTAURANTS PROVIDED WITH SEGWAYS AND HOVERBOARDS

SURREY, BC (March 31, 2017) | Following Premier Christy Clark’s announcement this month that the provincial government will bring in legislation to end mandatory high heels in BC restaurants and other workplaces, the Joseph Richard Group (JRG) has announced it will provide Segways and hoverboards to its restaurant personnel and has filed municipal rezoning applications for renovations to create the extra required floor space.

Founded in 2002, JRG is one of British Columbia’s fastest growing food, beverage and entertainment organizations, with 20 public houses, restaurants and liquor retail outlets in British Columbia and Alberta, and several openings slated for 2017.

Staff comfort has always been a core commitment of JRG and now the company is taking it one step further, literally. Expanding the footprint at each of its 17 restaurants and public houses will help create wider walkways, making it possible for staff to use the Segways or hoverboards while servicing guests. It’s a move JRG CEO Ryan Moreno and business partner Andre Bourque have been working on for the past few months with local municipal governments. As part of the process, rezoning application signage has been erected at each restaurant and the next step will be reviews by municipal engineering departments.

“Our staff walk an average of 12 kilometres per shift,” said Moreno. “We believe that by creating a more comfortable work environment for them, we will create an even better guest experience for our customers. If we receive the necessary approvals, we will look to execute quick renovations to minimize the impact on our guests and operations.”

In addition to ensuring the staff is trained to properly and safely use the vehicles, the company is also reviewing logistical issues such as whether staff will be required to wear helmets while serving guests.

In the coming weeks, JRG will post an online petition where guests can show their support for the movement. Follow @WeAreJRG on Twitter or Instagram for further updates regarding the expansion. For more information, visit www.jrgvancouver.ca
