Let’s Talk Volunteering Conference at SFU Surrey May 24

Youth Transforming Society (YTS) is a registered, student-led non-profit organization based out of Surrey, BC that aims to raise awareness for humanitarian issues and encourage community volunteerism. Founded in 2010, YTS has since raised over $20,000 for various organizations and has helped hundreds of students get involved. For their next project, YTS has organized their second annual event, “Let’s Talk Volunteering: Get Inspired. Get Involved.”

Let’s Talk Volunteering is a TED Talks style conference featuring 3 keynote speakers, each of whom will share their stories about how volunteering played an integral role in shaping their lives and journey to success in their respective careers.

The well-known and accomplished community leaders that will be speaking to students to inspire them include:

Arun Dhir – Medical Student at the University of British Columbia
Perminder Tung – ICBC Lawyer & Injury Claims, Partner at Lindsay Kenney LLP
Sandeep Kaur Gill – Social Worker & Writer, Co-Founder of ‘She Writes HerStory’

The conference will be followed by a volunteer fair with over 20 organizations present, where students have the opportunity to network and sign up to volunteer with organizations such as Ronald McDonald House, YMCA, Canadian Mental Health Association, and many more. Students will have the opportunity to connect with organizations that align with their own values and beliefs.

The event will be taking place at SFU Surrey (#250 – 13450 102nd Ave Surrey, BC) on Wednesday, May 24th, from 5:15pm to 8:00pm. This is a FREE event open to all high school and university students. However, individuals of all ages are encouraged to attend the event, especially parents. As seating is limited, everyone is asked to secure their free seats at this event, by filling out out a quick registration form that can be found on YTS’ website:
