Red Ribbons 4 Life Seeking Sponsors for Food Security Fundraising Event

Red Ribbons 4 Life Seeking Sponsors for Food Security Fundraising Event

This year, a milestone was reached with the 10th annual Red Ribbons 4 Life event. From a one night event at the Fireside Café that raised over $2000 for the Djaeff Mahler Foodbank to last year’s over $9,000 raised and donated to the Foodbank it has reached almost $72,000 raised and donated to HIV/AIDS food security. This annual event showcases the best in Female Impersonation and drag performances both live and lip synch. This year, Mr Bobby Drake, world renowned “live” female impersonator, will be returning for a guest appearance along with some of the well known local drag queens

To fund the Foodbank for 12 calendar months comes to $28,000. This ensures food security for HIV/HepC + low income families. Over 100 families access this service (including marginalized refugees) 40 out of the 52 weeks of year. Red Ribbons 4 Life would love to be able to raise the full amount and are reaching out to local businesses and community organizations to this year’s campaign as sponsors.

10 4 10

Red Ribbons 4 Life is seeking 10 local community organizations and/or businesses to partner with and donate $1000 per organization to realize $10,000. This will go a long way to achieving their goal. A tax receipt can be issued (via Lookout Society) and your business/organization would be promoted on their event pages, website and other printed material relative to the event. You would also be given a couple of VIP tickets (Prime Seating) to attend and would be invited to have promotional material at the venue.

Your business/organization would also be offered a full colour page in the playbill programme book being handed out that night to the attendees and acknowledged by the emcees as a sponsor/partner of Red Ribbons 4 Life. We plan to actively promote the event proper come July 31.

Support Red Ribbons 4 Life

Each year the momentum of this event continues to grow with sponsors, participants as well as much needed funds. Last year over $9,000 was raised throughout the night. In the past year Red Ribbons 4 Life Foundation was registered in Victoria as a non profit. The goal is to ensure that the brand no only continues but is improved upon each year. The mandate of the Foundation is to

  • To focus on food security for HIV and HCV positive individuals
  • To educate and fundraise to support direct services for those on low income and/or disability living with HIV/HVC
  • To host the Annual Red Ribbons 4 Life event that will generate funding to be distributed to direct services that focus on food security for those on low income and/or disability in the HIV/HVC community on the Lower Mainland.

The Annual event has showcased the talents of drag, female impersonation. We always bring the best of the best to impersonate entertainment icons or produce Broadway/Las Vegas style production performances – some live some lyp-synch. Our announcement of the cast and sponsor/partners will occur August 31.

Once again Red Ribbons 4 Life has secured Dr. Brian Conway, M.D. FRCPC Medical Director, Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre (VIDC) as the Keynote speaker to address the ever changing HIV AIDS community with a positive message to deliver so that we can one day have a generation born in a world of no AIDS.

Red Ribbons 4 Life History

Since 2001 the GLBT community organizations in Surrey have worked closely with the Djaeff Mahler Foodbank and Lookout Society to provide food, clothing, Christmas gift baskets for those who were clients of Positive Haven. In 2007 Martin Rooney was denied entry to the US as there was an HIV Travel ban in place. Ironically this happened on Remembrance Day 2007 as he and his partner were headed south to pick up a turkey for his celebration of the US Thanksgiving Holiday.

In 2008 the annual campaign was renamed Red Ribbons 4 Life and was a campaign to educate and an attempt to rally the powers that be to reverse the US HIV Travel ban, successfully reversed January 4th 2010, and raise funds to continue the support of the local HIV AIDS Foodbank. Proceeds have surpassed $72,000 since its inception and have benefited many worthy organizations – the focus being Surrey HIV Food Bank, operated by Lookout Emergency Aid Society.
