Surrey Fusion Festival draws record crowd for 10th anniversary

Attendees celebrated Canada 150 through world-class music, food and culture 

Surrey, BC | Over 120,000 festival-goers celebrated community diversity through culture, food, music and entertainment at the 10th annual Surrey Fusion Festival this weekend. Presented by Coast Capital Savings, the event included live entertainment on six stages and 44 cultural pavilions.

“The 10th anniversary of Fusion Festival was a true milestone for this made in Surrey celebration of diversity and culture. A record crowd came out this year to enjoy the top-notch food, entertainment and star studded musical performances,” said Mayor Linda Hepner.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our presenting sponsor, Coast Capital Savings, as well as numerous cultural and community groups for their continued support; their contributions make this event possible.”On Saturday night, BC pop-star Nelly Furtado treated the crowd to past hits and songs from her new album “The Ride.”

International Punjabi star Amrinder Gill drew a massive crowd on Sunday evening, and the night ending with Canadian hip hop artist Classified. Additional performances included: Alx Veliz, The Zolas, Desi Sub Culture and DJ Khanvict.

“At Coast Capital, supporting local, free events like Fusion Festival is one of the highlights of summer in Surrey,” says Wendy Lachance, Director, Community Leadership at Coast Capital Savings. “We have deep and long-standing roots in Surrey, and it’s exciting to explore the cultures of our local neighbourhoods. That’s why we’ve been the presenting sponsor since the festival’s very first year. Congratulations to the festival for 10 great years!”

This year’s event honoured Canada’s 150 birthday with a Canada 150 Zone featuring Canadian and French-Canadian exhibits, and an expanded indigenous village highlighting Metis, Inuit, West Coast First Nations and Prairie First Nation heritage. For more information visit www.surreyfusionfestival.ca
