Meet Charles Balcita, the outstanding recipient of a $10,000 McDonald’s Employee Scholarship

McDonald’s Canada has presented Charles Balcita, an outstanding student at Johnston Heights Secondary School and employee at the Guilford McDonald’s located at 10250 152 St in Surrey, with a $10,000 McDonald’s Employee Scholarship. The scholarship comes as recognition of Charles’ extraordinary dedication to his school, his community, and his job. In addition to maintaining an impressive GPA of 91 per cent, Charles has worked hard to become a respected and sought after member of every team he has joined.

As an essential member of the Model United Nations, Youth Achieving Success Organization, and the Johnston Heights Leadership Team, Charles has had a tremendous effect on his community. Charles’s enthusiasm and work ethic have also left a mark on his workplace too. He took on the role of a Guest Experience Leader, a new guest-facing position at McDonald’s, where Charles is responsible for elevating the guest experience in the restaurant.

“The McDonald’s Employee Scholarship is an opportunity for McDonald’s to recognize crew members who display extraordinary commitment to helping their team and developing new skill sets, all while exceeding our guests’ expectations,” said Al Flannagan, Operation Manager, McDonald’s Canada. “Charles is well-deserved of this award and we are pleased that McDonald’s can play a part in contributing to his academic pursuits.”

His next pursuit is a degree in commerce from the University of British Columbia. “The scholarship has been a driving force in my aspirations for higher education.” he says. While there is little doubt that his astounding work ethic will earn him success, the scholarship has helped to provide to provide financial relief to Charles as he kicks off his first year in university. Charles plans to continue working for McDonald’s, and speaks highly of its value to first-time workers:

“McDonald’s Restaurants is an amazing place of employment and empowerment for first-time workers. It provides every opportunity to build the problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills that will set you up for success for the rest of your life.”
