WorkBC and City of Surrey to host “Get Surrey Working” Hiring Fair

WorkBC and City of Surrey to host “Get Surrey Working” Hiring Fair

In recognition of the province’s Disability Employment Month, the five WorkBC Employment Services Centres in Surrey and the City of Surrey have partnered to host their second collaborative initiative with this year’s “Get Surrey Working” Hiring Fair at Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre. The event will feature 40+ employers from various industries who are committed to inclusive hiring practices.

Last year’s Inclusive Hiring Fair was a great success with over 500 job seekers and 32 employers in attendance. As a result, 20 jobseekers self-reported that they were hired on the spot at the hiring fair. “It’s a great opportunity to find different employers under one roof. It’s a great fair!” Attendee, 2016 Inclusive Employer Hiring Fair

The City of Surrey is hosting the hiring fair in partnership with the Surrey WorkBC Centers, reflecting the City’s commitment to the Province’s Accessibility 2024, a 10-year action plan to make BC the most progressive province in Canada for people with disabilities.

“The Get Surrey Working [Hiring] Fair is a great opportunity for employers and job seekers to connect and build capacity for more diverse and inclusive workplaces in our city. At the City of Surrey, we’re committed to creating a city that’s welcoming and inclusive of all people and are proud to be hosting this year’s event again.” – Joey Brar, Acting Director, Human Resources, City of Surrey

“Surrey WorkBC is pleased to partner with the City of Surrey in hosting the second annual Get Surrey Working Hiring Fair to support business and job seekers in our community. This partnership demonstrates the fostering of a diverse and inclusive workforce culture throughout Surrey.” – Chris Hildebrand, Manager of AVIA Employment Services, WorkBC Surrey-Newton

The City of Surrey was recognized by WorkBC with an “Employer Appreciation Award” (Sept 2016) and in March 2017, won the “Employer Partnership Award” issued by the BC Career Development Association (BCCDA).

Surrey’s WorkBC Employment Services Centres

WorkBC Employment Services Centers across the province serve unemployed or underemployed British Columbians and employers with free employment services. The five WorkBC Employment Services Centers in Surrey work collaboratively on various community initiatives to raise awareness of the employment services offered to job seekers and employers. Offices are located in Cloverdale, Fleetwood/Guildford, Newton, South Surrey/White Rock and Whalley. The Employment Program of British Columbia is funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
