Perminder Chohan: 500 Advisors and Counting…

Interview with Perminder Chohan, Managing Director of Desjardins Financial Security Independent Network (DFSIN) – Richmond South

500 advisors? How?

Well, when I started out this wasn’t really so, just over time and a lot of persistence, I have grown my Business from 10 to a 100 then now to 500 + advisors who are currently on my team. My team has a low turnover as many people seem to find a good source of income from being in the Financial Services Field. We have over 75% immigrants who work with us and if they were to get another job outside of here, they would be working at minimum wage and to live a decent lifestyle at that wage is next to impossible in a place like Vancouver.

So what’s next for Perminder Chohan?

Well I think that I still have a ways to go in terms of success as I feel I haven’t achieved much as yet. There is still a lot to do and very little time I feel. I want to make a difference of some sort in the world. I don’t know if I will be able to achieve all of this in this lifetime but so far my journey has been very good and I feel very blessed.

Philanthropy but why?

Well, life is all about giving isn’t it? I can’t be thankful enough for what I have been given and it is primarily because of this community. As a child, this is what I learnt and I have since then just followed this advice. It’s a way of life for me, and I will continue to do this until I’m able.

Would your children join you?

Well every father wants and or hopes for that but I would never pressure them into this, it will be entirely their choice. My daughter Henna is 25 and is studying to be a nurse while my son Armaan is currently in Grade 11.

How has your life changed in the last decade?

Well, for one, a lot more people know me and this is a weird feeling. Sometimes I find myself walking into a store and people come up to me. I feel like a Celebrity but then I know I’m far from one.

My lifestyle has become a lot busier with a lot of social events and community gatherings of which I’m regularly a part of. Sometimes my family wishes that I’m home more often but they understand as this is now a part of my life…
