Bose Forest Park opens on site of historic Surrey homestead

Surrey, BC | West Cloverdale’s new Bose Forest Park marked its grand opening last Saturday with a family-friendly community event. Designed to include a nature based playground, extensive pathway and trail network, and social gathering spaces, the new 7.4 hectare (18.3 acre) park is located at the site of the original homestead of Surrey pioneer Henry Bose.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Roger Bose and the Bose family for their contributions in guiding the vision and design of Bose Forest Park,” said Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner. “This beautiful parkland will be a wonderful community gathering space, and its amenities and natural areas will be enjoyed by residents for generations to come.”

Bose Forest Park includes an approximately 80-year-old mature forest and a wetland environment which provides habitat for seven mammal species and 21 bird species.

“The preservation of Bose Forest Park’s mature forest and wetland is an important addition to Surrey’s protected natural areas,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Committee. “Biodiversity conservation is a key foundation to a healthy, sustainable, livable community.”

From the park, residents can access the Hook Greenway, a multi-use path that extends approximately two kilometres from 64 Avenue at 165 Street, north east of Bose Forest Park, to 57 Avenue at 168 Street, leading to Guy Richardson Park.

Grand opening activities included children’s entertainers and nature based activities. For more information on Surrey’s parks visit www.surrey.ca/parks.
