The Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation‘s Tulips for Tomorrow campaign is underway. The beautiful and regal Princess Irene tulip is featured in the Autumn campaign this year.

The Inspiration Behind the Campaign
Tulips for Tomorrow was created in 2007 as a way to encourage people to support Surrey Memorial Hospital and help beautify the community. The Princess Irene tulip’s distinct bright orange colouring blended with gold and purple flames is remarkably reminiscent of the Foundation’s logo. The campaign is the brainchild of thornleyHAYNE Creative Communications, which has supported the Foundation’s fundraising efforts for several years by providing creative services for the campaigns.
Tulips for Tomorrow Partners
Many businesses and services proudly support the Foundation year after year. Employees from Bouygues Building Canada, the campaign’s top sponsor, volunteered their time to package the bulbs in late August. Where to Get Your Princess Irene Tulips
Tulip bulb packages are priced at $10 each and available at the following locations:

Every donor who gives $100 or more by November will receive a package of tulip bulbs. Donors of $1,000 or more will receive a patio planter full of blooming tulips in the Spring.
All proceeds from the tulip sales will go to to the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation
What Your Contribution Means
Your donation will help provide critical care to children. In the last year:
- Close to 200 children are treated for cancer at Surrey Memorial Hospital each year.
- More than 40,000 children have been treated at Surrey Memorial.
- Nearly 18,000 children visited the hospital’s Emergency Room.
- 500 newborns received specialized care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – of the 4,200 born each year in our Family Birthing Unit, one of the busiest obstetrical units in the country.

I know many families who value the the Foundation and are thankful for the quality of care that is provided for children in need. With the generosity of a donation, you can give a life-long gift to a child and their loved ones.
On a personal note: I was a preemie born about three months ahead of schedule and spent a month at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As most mothers do, my mother has often told me the story of the day I was born. A part of that story involved the attention and care that I received during my time in the hospital. It was always a positive and loving story despite the circumstances.
The way in which we come into this world becomes a part of who we are. It’s not always perfect, but the hope, care and love that surrounds us is what matters most. To the people who provide this care and to those who generously support this cause, I thank you.
