10 Best Surrey Sushi Restaurants that Make it Easy to Curb Your Craving For Japanese

1. Maguro Guy | 2670 152 Street | Surrey, BC V4P 1H7
Maguro Guy has indeed proven itself to be a formidable contender. Offering exceptional service, fish straight out of the sea and classically trained, yet innovative chefs, I find myself coming back time and time again for more. In fact, I’ve been here twice this month and each time was uniformly excellent and impressive.
Some dishes on the menu which have me salivating just thinking about them include their signature crab salad and the buttery, flaky Hamachi Kama which just melts in your mouth.
The chef is always keen to suggest specials which means that the food is continuously original and surprising. Although the price point is a bit higher than competitors, it truly is a work of art on the plate. I find dining here to be a total sensory aesthetic experience.

Sushi & Roll | 10241 King George Boulevard | Unit 103
Sushi & Roll has a huge menu selection with a variety that would suit even the pickiest of pallets. Each time I’ve frequented this hidden gem, they have delivered consistently delicious and adequately portioned dishes.
We enjoyed the Krispy crunch roll, the OMG roll and the cheesy Flying Unicorn Roll. I was impressed by the superb quality of sashimi and the deluxe Chirashi Don.
Note: I suggest you split with a friend, as the portions are generous.
It really is a socially-inviting scene and proves to be a great place to dine with a big group, however, do arrive a little early as it is quite popular!

Yamako Japanese | 15355 24 Avenue | Surrey, BC V4A 2H9
With only a small sushi bar and a few tables, you can expect a small wait at Yamako.
It is a quaint restaurant with excellent customer service and a thoroughly attentive staff. They offer a large enticing menu and may I suggest the lightly fried Agedashi tofu, In and Out roll, black dragon and Phoenix roll, the delectable Saba, home-made miso soup and the French Kiss Roll. These delicacies are all local favourites and it is not difficult to see why! Some even say they make the lightest tempura in all of Surrey/White Rock!

Aomori Sushi | 13767 72 Avenue | Unit 12 | Surrey, BC V3W 9Z1
Aomori is a small family owned business that delivers top notch fare! They are known for the Aomori combo, Red dragon roll and quirky specialty rolls such as the Yam roll or the Chicken teriyaki specialities. They serve up hearty and filling rolls which are both unique and creatively presented.
Aomori dishes are not only taste-bud tingling, they are a great value. You’ll be happily rewarded for your wait as the pleasant staff and pristine dining environment make eating here a casual and satisfying experience. Furthermore the unctuous exceptional cuts of smooth, deep-red tuna come and vibrant salmon sashimi will have you coming back for more!

MasQueSolo is a cute little hole in the wall place with great sushi at very reasonable prices. I find that there is something on the menu to fit everyone’s taste. Some stellar favorites of mine included the Teriyaki tofu lunch special and the Sweet Bon Bon Lady Roll, With such exceptional customer service, they even give complimentary spring rolls while you wait for your food! Finally when the sushi arrives, it is stellar in presentation, fresh and not overloaded with rice which is what many sushi spots will do to try to skimp out on the amount of fish you get. Excellent bang for your buck!

Rokku’s decor is relaxing and accessible and the ambiance is enticing. The dishes are reasonably priced, the staff is friendly, vivacious and vibrant and the service is expedient and thorough.
From the moment you enter, you’re greeted with deliberate attention, warmth and kindness. Overall the environment is very comfortable and spacious, not stuffy. What came highly recommended from the menu include the Johnston roll, a brilliantly marinated chicken miso ramen and the Maple roll.
The food is really light and not overly salty or heavily sauced (which are two of my pet peeves when it comes to trying zany new fusion rolls).
Of course, it isn’t sushi night without a Japanese beer, a fine bottle of wine or sake Rokku does offer an impressive selection of beer, wine and spirits to enjoy with your meal as well as a separate section off to the justify, which is great for private parties or events.

Nagoya Sushi | 9175 148 Street | Surrey, BC V3R 3W7
What’s good here? Answer: Everything! Sushi, Creamsicle-hued spicy salmon topped with scallion sauce, seared tuna and the most tasty Spider Roll I’ve ever had! A unique aspect of this secret spot is that they feature Black Rice rather than brown as an option.
This has additional health benefits to pair with the Omegas found in fish. The flavor of the black rice they use offers a delicious and unique dining experience. Additionally, the French Kiss Roll was prepared exquisitely with such artistic flare and delicate skill. Each dish that came out was very fresh and amply portioned. It truly was a novel dining experience.

Migoto Sushi | 1017 10355 152nd Street | Surrey, BC V3R 7C1
Migoto’s decor is relaxing and modern, offering the epitome of japanese cuisine their specialty “house rolls” are “the Firecracker Roll”, “Hot Lava”, “Ring of Fire” and “Butterfly Roll” and a “Stacked Salmon Cake”. I was particularly smitten with the Stacked Salmon Cake, which advertises layers of salmon, avocado, tempura crumbs, black brown rice, tobiko, kizami nori, and sesame seeds. While it is a bit pricey you won’t regret it!
On a side note, you can rest assured that, despite being located in a mall, it is a far cry from “Food Court Food”, and offers a healthier alternative that is very wallet-friendly.

Umami Sushi | 17725 64th Avenue | Suite 205 | Surrey, BC V3S
Umami is not your typical sushi joint as they offer an eclectic menu variety and they are kid-friendly too. I was struck immediately by the freshness and the unique combination of flavours paired with such elegant plating.
The Spider Roll, Lion Dance Roll and Stinky Roll are some of the unusually colorful names for Umami’s best-selling favourites on the menu.
If you are more of a traditionalist, I would implore you to watch the chef plate up your assorted sashimi platter where he decorates the dishes with the simplicity of a dash of ponzu or scallion curls and the mastery of artistic knife skills.

Akasaka Japanese Restaurant | 15110 101 Avenue | Surrey, BC V3R 7V4
Akasaka boasts an eclectic menu with plenty of variety as well as many vegetarian/vegan options too, such as vegetarian bibimbap. The overall ambience is quite traditional in observing the custom of the removal of shoes when entering the private dining area. You enter your own private dining area through a door that slides shut behind you for a lovely, intimate experience. Once inside, they have buttons available for you to press for any service needs. They staff is prompt and very attentive.
This venue is great for parties, an intimate date night, or simply a meal for one where you can let the primo seafood and the chefs’ superior knife skills shine and dazzle.

This Surrey cafe offers a delicious Bombay brunch

Tucked away on the edge of the Strawberry Hill Shopping Centre is Bandra Cafe, one of the best places for brunch in Surrey. It offers unique menu items that are not only full of flavour but are pretty just to look at. If you’re looking for something different than your basic pancake breakfast, this is the place for you.
Bandra Cafe serves Bombay-style cuisine that is chock full of flavour and spice. On our visit, we ordered the Bandra Benny and it did not disappoint. Just like your standard eggs Benedict it came with poached eggs, bacon, and hollandaise sauce, but was served on top of chili-cheese toast. It gave it the perfect kick that you wouldn’t normally find in an eggs Benedict, setting Bandra Cafe apart from all the other brunch spots in the city. On the side, there were crispy potato wedges and some sliced avocado.

We also ordered their dalgona coffee, which we had never tried before. It came with whipped coffee on top of steamed milk. Our waiter politely helped us out and instructed us that we needed to stir the drink (we had just gone right in for the sip and it left us with a coffee mustache that wasn’t noticeable until we got home). The drink both looked impressive and tasted great.

But Bandra Cafe doesn’t just do eggs Benedict. They also serve kanda poha (a popular Bombay breakfast with flattened rice, onions, peanuts, herbs, and spices, topped with coconut and sev), Kheema Par Eedu Skillet (kheema, potato salli, fried eggs, and pav bread, described on the menu as the “Bombay breakfast of champions”), and even a vegan platter (avocado, grilled tofu, vegetables, and salad with tahini almond dressing). You can also order small bites and drinks to share if you’re coming to visit later in the evening with friends.
The cafe itself is very modern looking with a plant wall at the entrance with a neon sign that reads “Good Brews, Good Bites.” The service was excellent and we’re excited to go back again to try the rest of their menu.
Bandra Cafe is open Monday to Thursday from 11am to 10pm, and Friday to Sunday from 11am to 11pm.

This Surrey restaurant is serving up “monster burgers”

Located in the heart of Newton is Fab Burgers Inc., the home of Surrey’s “monster burgers.” What is a monster burger you may ask? Well, it’s about as intimidating as it sounds.
Fab Burger Inc. has six monster burgers on their menu, and one of their most famous ones is the Fab Meaty Muncher which comes with breaded crispy chicken, a beef patty, chicken bacon, cheddar cheese, purple slaw, pickles, tomatoes, an onion ring, and their signature FAB sauce. It’s piled high and requires some maneuvering to be able to take a bite.

If that’s still a little too small for you, you can order their Sweet Temptation Burger which comes with three patties of your choice of chicken or beef (yes you heard right, three patties), topped with lettuce, sauteed onions, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and finished with barbeque sauce. It’s the biggest burger on their menu and definitely deserves the name “monster burger.”
But don’t worry, they also serve regular-sized burgers for those who don’t have a monster appetite. The Flamin’ Nacho Burger is a fan favourite and has a beef patty topped with fresh salsa, onions, jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole, nacho chips, and topped with cheddar cheese.

If burgers aren’t your thing, Fab Burger Inc. also sells other foods like Chicken and Waffles and BBQ Lamb Chops which are marinated with their in-house blend of seasonings and sauces and served with fries, coleslaw, and a drink.
