It was an evening of positivity and light at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday night. Fans came from Toronto and every point in between to enjoy the live sold-out performance from Pakastani singer, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. We were privileged to host the internationally recognized artist in for a night of unforgettable music and memories. The concert was made presented by Surrey businessman and television personality, Kamal Sharma. Kamal has been  responsible for bringing many of the most popular South Asian artists to Surrey and Vancouver.  It was great to be a part of a special cultural music  event made possible by Surrey representatives. Surrey604 was fortunate to be the on-site media for the evening.

Friends and families met and greeted each other, enjoying each other’s company before the concert.  The buzz was present as fans of all ages chatted about their favorite Rahat songs and the ones they hoped Rahat would perform that night. People lined up in the lobby to have their photo taken as they treated themselves to a commemorative gift for the night. The young and old were united and excited about the evening that was yet to be experienced. The music was definitely in the air.

Following in the footsteps of his Uncle, legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat, keeps Qawwali and Sufi traditions alive, while remaining one of the most popular Bollywood singers. The beautiful stage illuminated when Rahat walked on and began the show, easing the audience with his mesmerizing vocals. He played and sang the traditional Qawwalis as well as some of his other popular Bollywood songs. The homage to the Creator, Allah Hoo, Allah Hoo was powerfully intertwined with beautiful Sufi chants.

Tere Must Must Do Nain brought the audience to their feet while couples danced in the aisle.  High in the balcony seats, fans rejoiced, danced and sang along with Rahat. Rahat’s team of singers were absolutely amazing and the energy of the singers and musicians on stage was infectious. In the middle of Tere Must Must Do Nain, two young ladies made their way to the front of the stage and Rahat, putting their hands together as a gesture of respect to the singer (the song was dedicated to one of the girls). There were moments during the concert that were truly spiritual experiences.
