Tallest Tower South of The Fraser Announced for Surrey
As the second largest metropolitan area in British Columbia, Surrey is one of the fastest developing communities in the Province and perhaps Western Canada. Surrey is an exciting place to be. Many great projects are in the works and the City of Surrey is striving to improve our quality of living, transportation and community connections. Every new addition to the City Centre is transforming the shape and feel of our City.
This area is the nucleus of our new Surrey where you’ll find one of the largest construction sites in the Lower Mainland, with continuous work on the new City Hall and plans for a new Performing Arts Centre. Once an unattractive part of the City, today it is the heart of the community often featuring family friendly celebrations, such as the recent Party for the Planet and HSBC City of Bhangra Festival. In a city with a booming population (approximately +1000 new residents/month), we can foresee a need for residential projects.
On Thursday the Century Group and the City of Surrey unveiled plans for “3 Civic Plaza”, the tallest tower South of the Fraser and Surrey’s first mixed-use residential and hotel project. This project is one of the three crucial elements of the new City Centre core and will join the Library and City Hall when completed in 2015. Standing at an impressive 517 feet (50 storeys – approximately 158 meters), the tower will be the fifth tallest in the Lower Mainland. It will dominate the City Centre area and will definitely be one of the largest attractions for those visiting our City.
This announcement reiterated that the Surrey of the future is quickly becoming a reality. We are a force for achievements in architecture, transportation, culture, education, tourism, and community.
“3 Civic Plaza is a great example of how change, innovation and collaborative partnerships will help bring the vision for Surrey City Centre to life. Projects like these will help create vibrant, liveable, sustainable communities and prepare Surrey for growth in the coming years.” Mayor of Surrey, Dianne Watts
Century Group and Surrey City Development Corporation (SCDC) are partners in this project which they believe will further Surrey’s vision for the creation of a lively transit-oriented City Centre. That’s exactly in line with The City of Surrey’s vision to introduce new modes of transportation in the City Centre area and ensure that the metropolitan area is well connected to other parts of the City. Next, the City will prepare to announce the location and details of the much-anticipated addition to the City: the Performing Arts Centre.
Community members and media gather for the unveiling at City Centre Library.
“3 Civic Plaza” will be situated on the east side of the Central City Plaza, opposite the City Centre Library and next to City Hall. Proximity to the Central City Mall, SFU and new amenities will place it at a prime location in the City. Residents and visitors will have easy access to public transportation and a new parkade in the same area.
The project will feature a premium boutique hotel called the Civic Hotel, Surrey’s first new high-rise hotel in two decades. Civic Hotel will boast 160 guest rooms and meeting spaces to accommodate over 300 people. Operations will be maintained by an international reservation system. This will be a great addition to Surrey’s tourism especially for high profile conference and summit events similar to the upcoming Surrey Regional Economic Summit.
The residential part of “3 Civic Plaza” will be represented through approximately 330 units situated above the hotel, and will feature some of the most impressive views of Surrey City Centre and beyond.
Jim Cox, President and CEO of Surrey City Development Corporation & Sean Hodgins, President of the Century Group unveil the model of 3 Civic Plaza.
“We are thrilled to be launching 3 Civic Plaza today as we recognize the importance of furthering the development of Surrey’s emerging City Centre. Investing in the new Surrey City Centre is essential to create the condition for success – the kind of place we can all be proud to call home.” Sean Hodgins, President, the Century Group
Upon completion, 3 Civic Plaza will bring new jobs, additional revenue and attract more investors. This project will help to shape our City’s growth, helping to create a new urban area and community for all residents and visitors to enjoy.[awesome-gallery id=13335]
