The all-new A3 sedan is the first offering in the soon to be expanding Audi A3 family. Totally redesigned for the 2015 model year, the brand new A3 certainly the equivalent of Audi firing the first volley across the bows of heavyweights Mercedes-Benz and BMW with their new CLA-Class and new 2-series respectively.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to OpenRoad Audi’s exclusive unveiling of the A3 on Thursday January 16th for a first hand look at the car.
This was the first exclusive viewing to West Coast residents as the 2015 A3 is only scheduled to be officially launched at the Montreal International Auto Show later this week.
In true high-end OpenRoad fashion, the unveiling was held at The FanClub in Vancouver with the help of the Now or Never Dance crew, and circus aerialist Sylvia Louis.
Both of these amazing acts added to the anticipation before the covers were pulled off the A3 lying in wait with its LED headlamps aglow beneath.
Scott Maclean, sales manager of OpenRoad Audi, explained “This is one of the most anticipated models this year. We’re giving you all a first hand look at this car before anyone else in Vancouver. We know you won’t be disappointed!”.
Invited VIP guests were also treated to the gastronomic delights of the FanClub, while featured cocktails were served for guests to quench their thirsts during the unveiling.
This A3 sedan will be joined later in 2014 by the recently announced Audi A3 Cabriolet, A3 TDI clean diesel, the high-performance S3 sedan and in early 2015, the A3 Sportback e-tron® gasoline electric hybrid (PHEV).
With a base MSRP for the 2015 A3 1.8T front wheel drive starting at only $31,100, the A3 will be positioned to take on latest competitors from its German rivals.
Keeping with the value-for-money quotient, even the base model of the all-new premium Audi A3 comes equipped with standard features that include Bluetooth® technology, Audi pre sense® basic and a panoramic glass sunroof.
When the covers were finally removed and the A3 unveiled, a gleaming German-spec Glacier metallic white S-line 1.8 TSFI A3 was revealed.
Excitement was in the air as almost all the guests had no problems waiting in-line for 10 minutes just to get a chance to sit in the driver’s seat.
Most left with happy smiles, and hopefully with plans to visit OpenRoad Audi in the near future when the vehicle is officially launched in Canadian-spec later this week.
