Last minute Father’s Day gift guide
Father’s Day is right around the corner and if you’re having a bit of difficulty finding the perfect gift – stress not. Some dads are easy to shop for (my dad is content with bacon for breakfast…and lunch….and dinner) others require days – weeks even – of careful planning in order to come up with something clever and creative.
I’ve put together a small list of fun suggestions sure to show him why he’s so special.
For the donut lover: Cartems Donuts is the perfect one stop shop to satisfy cravings for something rich and sweet. Make sure to take home a box of Canadian whiskey maple donuts. With a combination of whiskey, bacon fat, and Canadian Maple, it’s no surprise that Cartems has been named one of Vancouver’s best donut joints.
For the coffee drinker: Keep it simple but thoughtful with the “World’s Best Dad Ever” coffee mug – available at Brick and Mortar Living, a quaint furniture and home decor store located in downtown New Westminster with a focus on community and evoking nostalgia though their unique pieces. Check out their Facebook page and their Instagram @brickandmortarliving for more rad gift ideas!
For the sentimental dad: Brick and Mortar Living “Dad” keychain. A sweet, little, leather reminder that he’s thought about 365 days of the year.
For the photographer: Much cheaper than a real lens, the Thinkgeek Camera Lens Mug resembles a real life telephoto lens and is a quirky gift perfect for any photog. Only 19.99 at Memory Express – available online or in store off No.3 Road in Richmond, B.C.
For the tech savvy dad: Dad will be impressed by the Weiser Kevo – Bluetooth Enabled Deadbolt for iPhone 4S and 5. With the same touch open convenience as a fob, this satin nickel deadbolt will eliminate fumbling for keys. Your smartphone becomes your key. Send electronic keys to friends and family and receive lock activity notifications. This deadbolt is easy to install and doesn’t require power or internet. (249.00 Home Depot)

For the grill master: Invest in the Master Built Pro Duel Smoker. Dad can kick back and enjoy a beer while this beast slowly cooks chicken, beef, pork, salmon – anything – to perfection. ($199 at Home Depot)
For the trendy dad: The Jr Raiders Bag Tribe is a great gift for a trendy dad. Designed and made in Canada, this leather bag is exclusive to Roots. One look at it and it’s no wonder why it’ one of their bestsellers. ($199 at Roots Canada)
For the manly man: What’s more masculine than whiskey aftershave? This natural, vegan after-shave contains sea minerals and includes sea kelp extract, blue-green algae, organic aloe vera, and tea tree oil. Available at Nouvelle Nouvelle in Gastown. (209 Abbott St, Vancouver)
For the philanthropist: Inspired by the rich history of Nambia, the Base Project has partnered with local artisans to design and create locally-sourced, eco-friendly, fair trade fashion like their Base Project bracelet. A portion of their profits go into community development projects in the artisan’s region. (Urban Outfitters, Vancouver)
For the hungry dad: For the jerky fanatic the monthly jerky subscription is the gift that keeps on giving. Choose your duration anywhere between 3-12 months. www.jerky.com
Father’s Day shouldn’t be stressful. Gifts are great but remember that as long as you fill the day with love and laughter, your father is guaranteed to feel the appreciation he deserves.
