With the 3rd overall selection in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft the Vancouver Giants selected Tyler Popwich of Surrey. Popowich is 6’4 and 190lbs and played this season for the Okanagan Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team where he scored 25 goals and added 32 assists for 57 points in 47 games for the team. Popowich was the first forward selected in this year’s draft after Ty Smith went to Spokane and Calen Addison was drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Giants added another Surrey born player taking Jack Judson in the 10th round of the draft. Judson is a 5’7 defenseman who weighs 135lbs and played last season with the Delta Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team where he had 3 goals and 4 assists in 18 assists.

Earlier in the draft, the Saskatoon Blades selected Matthew Mosher with the 1st selection in the 3rd round. Mosher played alongside Judson at the Delta Hockey Academy where the forward was able to score 11 goals and add two assists in 18 games.

Delta Hockey Academy was one of the big producers of talent with Judson and Mosher being drafted. Ty Smith of Lloydminster, Alberta also played for the Academy and he went to Spokane first overall. In the 6th round of the draft, the Everett Silvertips selected Ethan Scardina from Delta Hockey Academy. Scardina had 4 goals and 4 assists in 18 games for the Academy.

This year’s draft featured players born in 2000 and these players will not be eligible to play in the WHL until the 2016-17 season
