The Surrey Eagles announced their first transaction of the summer today by acquiring Langley’s Kyle Star from the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Star, a forward, joins the Eagles after spending the last two seasons in the AJHL with the Olds Grizzlys, Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Brooks Bandits where he was able to score 29 goals and add 43 assists for 72 points with 176 penalty minutes in 108 games. Star was a key part of the Bandits’ run to the Rogers Wireless Cup Final where they lost to the Spruce Grove Saints.
Although Star put up good numbers in the AJHL, Eagles coach Blaine Neufeld thinks his style is best suited for the BCHL. “We thought that Kyle was always best suited for the BCHL. He put up a good number of points in the AJHL but his skill set and ability to make plays is going to put him in a position to gain a Division 1 scholarship and move on to the next level.”
Star will suit up with the rest of his new teammates and Surrey Eagles’ hopefuls at the 2015/16 Main Camp starting on August 24th.
