Suki’s hair salon’s recent location opened up in South Surrey’s Morgan Crossing last year on first of October.
With the first salon opening up 44 years ago Suki Takagi, Founder of Suki’s hair salon, changed the face of Vancouver’s hairdressing industry and with it the daily lives of a generation of Vancouver woman.
She started out as a single 5-chair salon and has grown into an internationally renowned hair academy and six salons.
Jessica Van Duyk, Manager of the South Surrey Suki’s hair salon and Master Color Designer and the Creative Director for Suki’s, said, “quite honestly I think the people here have quite discerning taste but the services they have been getting haven’t been meeting their expectations. It’s a place where people expect certain kinds of luxuries. I think some times Surrey hasn’t gotten a good reputation yet the people here are wonderful and very classy.”
She said a lot of her old clients that she hadn’t seen for a few years have started coming to her new location. They had stopped coming to the Burrard location since it was too far.
Duyk said it’s very practical for young moms and families in the community to just pop by for a couple of hours and get their hair done in their own community.
She said what makes Suki’s different from other hair salons is that they are very professional, provide world class service and offer detailed consultation.
Another factor that has made them popular is that they constantly keep themselves up to date with the latest techniques. “we are constantly doing training, I’m constantly going all over North America doing training. I also work as a corporate trainer and go through out North America and I teach other hair dressers.”
Duyk said Surrey is one of the fastest growing cities in North America and therefore it made sense for them to open up their current location even though it was further out.
She further added their business has grown solely from word of mouth since it opened in South Surrey. Suki made this possible by providing world class training to her staff and making sure they are experts at what they did.
London Drugs Christmas Tree – Supporting Our Seniors
I came across an amazing post this morning by Natalya Cannon, on Facebook and just wanted to spread the word about this lovely and thoughtful endeavour.
London Drugs has Christmas trees with tags with the names of those living in care homes. You can select a tag and there is a “wish list” of items on there that would be wonderful for the individual to receive during the holiday season.
As we know, the upcoming holiday season will be very different from those we’ve had before – many of us will be separated from family and for seniors living in care homes, it may be even harder this year should there be further lockdown and limitations to visits.
This is a wonderful and socially distanced way to share some love and care for others, during a time where a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
