I’m Carson Hoy, a musician and contributor to SR3Y, I’m 20 years old and I’m obsessed with the “success mindset”. The idea that life can be whatever you make it is so fascinating to me, and in this series I’m showcasing some people from Surrey who are rising up and showing that manifestation is alive and well. If you’re from Surrey or not, still in highschool or retired, this article will prove that YOU can grant your life’s wishes. There’s people around the corner doing it right now!
I find two Surrey teens onto something big…
I met a girl named Paulina at Pemberton Music Festival who was showing her friends a shirt she helped design for her friends’ clothing company… I’m instantly like “SHE DOES ART!!? Omgomgomgomg” So I asked her to show me. It was a beautiful rose design on a white t shirt. I began to tell her “That design is really cool!” “You gotta follow your passions, I believe in you!” and all her friends looked at me and said “You sound just like Harrison, you’d love Harrison” So I wrote his name in my phone, found him on Facebook later, and I received an invite to “The BW Collection” launch party not long after, it had it’s own .com website and everything. I thought “Hmm. Looks legit, hopefully I’m cool enough”
I showed up to the party and felt strong energy coming from the back corner of the shop, Seth and Harrison. I could feel the calm confident vibe of Seth, and the hungry energy of Harrison explaining to some kids how they started their brand – “You just DO it. Like that Shia Labeouf video? You know where he says – yeah… JUST DOOO IT” “It’s all about positivity, cut negativity out of your life!” I stood there nodding my head like a yes man, screaming inside that I couldn’t add anything, the words were said. That IS how you succeed, you jump in and just take the chance, no excuses, just DO IT.
They started out humbly as a vintage clothing page on Tumblr who’s product pictures were of each other in their thrifted finds, wearing a unicorn mask. It was titled “BW Vintage” and making waves from that platform was what sparked a vision to design a whole brand from scratch.
Flash forward to this launch party and their artistic visions have truly come to life. There were hand painted jackets with quotes like “Rebel Against The Brainwashing of Our Youth” and other thought provoking lines. Flight jackets, hats, coach jackets, hoodies, all with the BW Collection tag hand sewn in. Everything was designed by local artists and made of high quality material. I found the shirt Paulina’s rose was on, and was thinking “I guess I should buy it to show my support” took a closer look, the rose was stitched, the fabric was softer than a baby’s ass. I went from “support-buy” to “would-have-bought-anyways” in mere seconds. The excitement was palpable in the shop, the brand’s message was loud and clear. Think outside of society’s norms, be creative – anyone there was on board with those ideas and were making connections like crazy. I realized this brand attracts an individual who wants to do big things, and make a positive impact.

SR3Y's recap of Friday night's BW Collection launch party at @thebasement_byloyalcoalition This brand is homegrown and very sick. One of a kind pieces are on display and are even reasonably priced. The Basement sells only locally designed street wear and has launch parties on the regular, hit them up! #streetstyle #fashion #vancouver #surrey #bwcollection #style #passion #locallymade #ootd
Living here my whole life, I’ve seen Vancouver and Surrey alike lack a standout artistic identity. It makes an artist feel like going to New York or LA to start something. This brand started right here and truly represents Vancouver and has amassed a cult following among street style wearers for it’s positive message and obvious attention to detail.
The only thing more intriguing than the line itself is the two guys behind it! (Who believe in this movement so firmly that it’s MAD contagious) After speaking with them in person at my studio, picking their brains about business, passions and their lives in general. I’ve narrowed down that they have all the traits of a raging success:
- They find a passion
- Make it their purpose
- They dream BIG
- They work HARD
These two boys have a work ethic not for the faint of heart, but where does it come from?
Let’s talk to Harrison and Seth of “The BW Collection”
Bold print – Carson Hoy
Italic print – Harrison & Silky
“What’s up boys, how’s business?”
Silky: “It’s been good, growing everyday. It’s a blessing.”
Harrison: “The response from the community has been humbling, I’m learning more and meeting more faces.”
“So this is a question you guys said everyone asks, so let’s clear the air. Why is the name ‘The BW Collection’?”
“It’s Black & White, it’s simple.”
“Yes, I find your clothing is classically designed for street wear, not all busy and up in your face like most (The name “Black & White” represents the elements)
The Basement is a pretty interesting shop, I’ve never seen a store with locally made street wear. How did you come across it and launch your brand there?”
Harrison: “Silky told me there was this low-key boutique that opened up in Gastown and that we should go check it out. We walked in there wearing our freshly distressed denim jackets and the rest was history…”
“Launching anything is a huge leap of faith.
After launch, what did you expect VS How it happened?”
Seth: “I didn’t know what to expect, but the turnout was amazing and we are humbled by the initial response we got.”
Harrison: “The movement is growing, it’s a blessing. I still, to this day, do not think people realize we launched our brand, not a new line. The release of the capsule collection ended our 8 month journey, entitled ‘Prelude’. In my eyes, that release solidified us as a brand, not as just kids with ideas.”
“I was on Insta seeing people wearing your clothes and thought you guys planned it, had no idea you were unaffiliated, very cool.
I’m curious, what did your parents think when you said you guys were starting a clothing brand?”
Seth: “They’re cool with it now.”
Harrison: “There is always going to be that negative response from people when you choose a path that questions their own teachings. If it’s your parents, tell them your truths.”
“Haha been there guys, takes some friction.
When we were talking, Seth mentioned ‘Making the jump’ and that means a lot to me as someone who has done it with my own art. What does “The jump” mean for you guys and how have your lives changed since doing it?”
Seth: “You know when teachers/parents tell you not to put all your eggs in one basket, yeah they’re all in one basket. If you give yourself a way out, you’ll never find that success you’re searching for.”
Harrison: “I’m 100% vested in this movement, there is no ‘Plan B.’”
Yes! As Warren Buffett, the great investor says: “Keep all your eggs in one basket, but watch that basket closely” Besides, more eggs are dropped by people trying to hold too many baskets!
What do you guys say to the people who say this: “So like… This all sounds fun now, but what about when life gets in the way? Not many people make it… Why didn’t you get normal jobs or go to school like everyone else?”
Seth: “There are no handouts–if you want something in life you have to go and take it. You only get once chance at life, live it how you want.
Harrison: “Life moves on with or without you. We do not abide to social normalities nor the misconstrued structure, or box, that society places on us. We create to show others that it’s okay to follow your passions.”
“That’s what I like to hear, I feel the average person is basing their reality on what’s been done, and not what CAN be done.
I always wonder when there’s an artistic duo, what is the thing that makes you guys so potent?”
“We’re on the same wavelength and share the same vision”
“So important to have a mutual goal, I get the vibe you guys checked your egos a long time back. I feel that you act out of purpose and not for recognition. You never mention cash or status, only creating a valuable product.
(And somewhere a mature gentleman exclaims “Fackin millenials!”)
What keeps you grounded, and what mindset do you need to achieve your goals?
Harrison: “We’re self-aware. We only have room for positivity. We are never satisfied–the most minute details are important to us. We’ll stress over things you don’t think about or simply overlook.”
“There’s people reading this who have massive blank spots in their brain about what you guys do. For those people, explain succinctly the first step they can take to starting a clothing company.”
Harrison “Bing it.”
“The internet contains all humanity’s knowledge, that’s really the point here haha.
Looking around I could see your stuff is all done locally, why is that important and what is the overall objective for your brand?”
Harrison: “We are dedicated to maintaining our strong roots within the community and showcasing Vancouver. Gastown is one of the most beautiful places to go–I want to showcase its streets and culture to the world. Everything is designed to promote positivity and evoke a deeper level of thinking about social order. All our pieces are custom cut and sew, and finished locally. This includes sewing our labels in our own studio, and what we don’t have the means to do in-house, we outsource to local shops.”
“I feel that’s what people are looking for, passion and connection at every level. What kind of people do you want to become? Who do you wish the mature Harry and Silky are 20-30 years from now, and what are those silver foxes up to?”
Seth: “Someone who made something of himself.”
Harrison: “I want to be happy.”
“You guys kept it secret when I asked you last time… What’s next? Come on. Tell me. Nobody will see this, like, who’s even reading my interviews?”
“Tsunamis, not waves.”
“Oh my. I’m waiting for that kahuna my radical dudes.
And finally, you hop into a DeLorean and hit 88mph as you arrive in your own driveway, but two years ago. You see your young highschool self wearing a propeller hat, playing with a YoYo (like you did back then) and can give ONE piece of advice for starting the BW Collection. What do you tell your 17 year old self?”
Harrison: “Everything’s going well.. all those sleepless nights paid off.. but your career starts to go downhill because you lose focus..”
“Ahh, the old – ‘Trick yourself into thinking you lost focus so you never wanna lose focus” routine. Great time travel productivity hack.
Having met you two guys I’m certain if I don’t grab hold of you now I’ll be more upset than I was when I watched the Notebook. You’re headed somewhere, I don’t know where, but it’s NOT at a 9-5 job. It’s somewhere creative and constantly growing, where each person around you is more interesting than the last. I look forward to seeing what you guys have in store next, and hopefully we keep connected into the future and I see my predictions come true!
Thanks a lot for sitting down with me guys, I really appreciate it. Keep slayin.”
Seth: “Gang gang, all love”
Harrison: “Humbling man, nothing but love”
(After sitting down with these guys, they flew out of my studio to do some work. And not 10 minutes later I saw new posts by them on my news feed… Anyone viewing a company’s start up from the outside has no clue what kind of work goes into it, sitting down with Silky and Harry I have a glimpse of what it takes.)
If you want to support their movement, check out these links below and make sure to follow them on Instagram to catch the live progression of a local streetwear brand. Peace!

How to Choose a Watch That Fits Your Wrist (And Your Style!)
Did you realize that on average, men spend $10 more each month on accessories than women? Whether you are trying to breathe life into an old outfit or attempting to make your work uniform more unique, accessories can be extremely helpful. For most men, having a nice watch they can wear on a daily basis is a necessity.
With all of the different timepiece options out there, figuring out how to choose a watch can be difficult. Instead of getting frustrated with this buying process and settling on the first watch you see, take your time and weigh all of your options. Rushing through this important decision can lead to you making a number of mistakes.
Getting a watch that isn’t quite your style or fit will result in you not wearing it. This is why going in and trying on a few different timepieces is a good idea. The following are some of the things you should consider when trying to find a watch that fits your wrist and your sense of style.
How to Ensure a Watch Fits Properly
While there are a number of factors you have to consider before buying a watch, how it fits should be one of your main considerations. Failing to consider watch sizes can lead to issues with discomfort over time. If you are trying to get a watch that fits well, you will need to think about the following factors.
The Watch Case Diameter
Among the most noticeable features of any watch is the size of the dial case. There are a number of watch case diameters on the market, which is why you need to figure out which one fits your wrist the best.
The largest dial diameter you can get is a 46mm. Often times, these large dials are reserved for times when you want to color coordinate with an exceptionally flashy outfit. In most cases, a man will need to choose a case diameter that is approximately 38mm or below.
Measuring Your Wrist is a Good Idea
Before going out to shop for a new watch, you need to get an idea of how big your wrist actually is. For years, people have used the dollar bill trick to figure this out. If you can wrap a U.S. dollar bill around this part of your body, it means you hsix-inchnd a six inch wrist.
If your wrist is around 8 inches, then you will most likely need to get between a 44 and a 46mm case diameter. While this may seem a bit large, it will be proportional to the size of your wrist.
The Width of the Watch Band
Another important factor to consider when trying to purchase a watch that fits will is the width of the band. While having a wider band can add to the appeal a watch has, it can make it nearly unwearable for a person with a smaller wrist.
Choosing a watch with a smaller width band will provide a more comfortable fit for a person with smaller wrists. While you can measure your wrist to get an idea of what band width you need, it is usually best to try them on.
By getting a firsthand experience regarding how a watch actually fits, you can make an educated decision on whether or not it is the right fit for your needs.
How to Choose a Watch With the Right Level of Appeal
The overall appeal a watch has is also an important factor to consider before making a purchase. The watch market is filled with timepieces of all shapes and sizes. By considering the following factors, you can find a watch that fits your sense of personal style
The Color of the Watch Dial
When window shopping for new watches, one of the first things you will notice is the dial on a timepiece. If you want to truly razzle and dazzle with a new watch, choosing one with a unique dial design and color is essential.
If you are having trouble choosing a dial color, think about what type of clothing you wear on a regular basis. Often times, a person will stick to one dominant clothing color scheme which is usually based on how well it blends with the skin.
Do you wear a lot of earth tones? If so, choosing a watch with a red or silver colored dial can complement your wardrobe nicely. Building a watch collection that has timepieces for any occasion should be your main goal
The Watch Band Material
Having a unique and comfortable watch band is also something you should view as a priority. Often times, the type of watch band a person prefers will depend solely on their individual taste.
If you are looking for a classic and understated look, going with a leather band is a great option. Metal watch bands can also be appealing. Typically, a metal band will be a bit more expensive than their leather counterparts. The money invested in these metal bands will be worth it considering how long they last.
The Dial Adornments a Watch Has
Having a hard time choosing between the watch options at your disposal? If so, be sure to take a look at the adornments on the dial of a watch.
Modern watches feature everything from date windows to rotating bezels and everything in between. Taking the time to make a list of the dial features that are important to you can help you narrow down the selection at your disposal.
Finding the Right Watch Supplier
Learning how to choose a watch is much easier with the help of a reputable supplier. Before choosing a supplier, you need to do some research to find out how well they have performed for other watch buyers in the past.

Vintage Watches Are the Timeless Timepieces You Need
Long summer afternoons, spent in the dim cool of your grandfather’s study. The scent of his cologne and his cigar competed with the smells of Grandma’s roast or Sunday gravy, floating up from the kitchen above.
You would be tucked into the corner of a cracked leather armchair, paging through an oversize book with rich watercolor illustrations, or maybe just watching the dust motes dance through a shaft of sunlight.
Sometimes Grandpa would let you look through the treasures in his desk drawer: old coins, antique keys, a fountain pen, black-and-white pictures of distant relatives. And, of course, his wristwatch, still ticking as reliably as when he purchased it in Paris during the war. Just glimpsing it again brings up memories, and he begins to tell you the stories…
There is no doubt vintage wristwatches hearken back to an era when people valued quality craftsmanship. Unfortunately, your older brother was the one who inherited Grandpa’s watch, but there is a way for you, too, to recapture that nostalgia: browsing a selection of vintage watches.
Three Reasons Why Vintage Watches Are Timeless
In the days when no self-respecting fellow would be seen in public without a hat and a pocket square, a wristwatch was a necessary accessory as well as a stylish one.
Today, we don’t need watches — even if you don’t want to reach into your pocket for your smartphone, it seems digital clocks are everywhere. So why choose vintage watches? Let’s take a look.
They Are Out of the Ordinary
Wearing a wristwatch, particularly one of the many storied vintage watches available, will set you apart from the masses. When everyone else is bent over their devices, drawn into the swirling vortex of social media and constant communication, all you need to do is take one quick glance at your wrist.
They Are the Epitome of Class
James Bond. Cary Grant. Sinatra and Deano. Classic style isn’t as easy to come by these days, now that fashion is disposable and people wear pajamas to the grocery store. Not you, however.
You understand that projecting a sophisticated, masculine image depends on the details: well-polished wingtips, having your shirts starched just so and, of course, the beautiful leather band of your vintage watch peeking out from beneath your cuff.
They Last a Lifetime — Or Two!
If Omega vintage watches could talk, they would certainly tell some compelling tales.
What stories will you contribute to your timepiece’s repertoire? Owning a well-made watch from the mid-20th century positions you within history. Unlike today’s tech gizmos that practically become obsolete the moment you take them out of their packaging, the old-school technology of a finely crafted chronograph is truly timeless.
Imagine handing down a vintage watch to your son, and then one day seeing it grace the wrist of your grandson. No iPhone can compare to that sense of tradition.
Once you fasten the strap of that first watch, you’ll be hooked. Vintage watches are beautiful, collectible, and practical items that you will be proud to own, and to pass on to future generations. Grandpa would approve!
Loved the blog? How about sharing the word to other vintage watch lovers on your favorite social platform?
How To Succeed In Fashion Blogging
Do you want to become a menswear fashion blogger?
If you keep up with the latest fashion trends and enjoy helping others dress for success, starting a blog may be the best option for you. Once you start a fashion blog, you realize running it is not very easy. Starting a fashion blog requires you to dedicate time to it.
Make sure that it is something that you really love and you’re not just doing it because everyone is doing it. Fashion blogging is fun but there is a lot of work that goes into it. This includes posting, scheduling, writing, and editing, just to mention a few.
Here are a few tips on how to start a fashion blog and succeed at it.
Register a Domain Name
The first thing you need to do is choose your domain name, which is the dot-com that you will be using. If you want to grow your blog into a business and turn it into a place where many people are going to visit, you’re going to need a domain name. They are very cheap because you can get them for as low as ten dollars a year.
You need to choose what you want your blog to be named and it may take you some time to come up with the name. You can use something catchy, your own personal name, or what you’re going to be blogging about, which is men’s fashion.
Once you come up with the name, check to see if it’s available and purchase that domain and get hosting.
Design a Unique Site
The next step is to get your site designed.
Your blogging experience will be so much better if you have a well-designed site because you are going to want to post on it more and it is going to appeal to more people.
Ensure you make your site aesthetically pleasing and in your own style to make your fashion blogging boom.
Choose A Suitable Platform
Choosing your platform would be the first option in your design process. One of the most important things is select the platform that you want to make your blog on. Have a clear set idea of what you want to do.
There are many blogging platforms that you can use like Tumblr, Blogspot, and WordPress. You may start off your fashion blog on Blogspot because it is completely free, is powered by Google, is very reputable, and anyone can use it.
WordPress is a standalone company and is more for the advanced bloggers or somebody who wants to grow their blog larger and have more functionality on their blog.
If you’re starting out, Blogspot may be your best option as it’s generic and simple to use.
Like Tumblr, they have a lot of blog templates you can choose from and customize your blog to make it a lot better and cleaner. This is much cheaper than customizing a WordPress blog.
Later on, you can to transfer your Blogspot account to your WordPress account.
See which blogging platform suits the style of your blog and use it.
Many people think they need a high-tech camera, editing software, and all the writing software, but you really don’t. Get yourself an affordable and quality camera for your photography sessions. Many bloggers these days use their iPhones or just point and shoot cameras and their photos are amazing.
With the advanced technology nowadays, you can get great photos from just your phone. You can use your phone’s editing apps to edit the photos for your blog.
All you have to do is put your camera card into your computer, or if you have them on your phone, edit them from there and then email them back to yourself so that you can upload them from your computer.
As you learn about how to be a fashion blogger, one important aspect is to remain true to yourself. You may see many fashion bloggers posting about a trend that you particularly don’t like and that’s okay.
Remaining true to yourself is why your followers or viewers are viewing your blog. They want inspiration from you because they like your style, the way you dress, and what you choose. A lot of bloggers fail or go down in viewers or ratings because they just start posting irrelevant things.
If you wouldn’t tell a person about an experience or a certain outfit or anything else you’re posting about, then don’t post it on your blog. To get some clothing items to begin blogging about, you can buy here.
One of the best ways to get your blog out there these days is through social media. Make sure you network your blogs on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest.
Using social media to promote your business is important in this era because it enables you to connect with so many people online. You need to network and share with everybody what you’re doing, what you’re wearing, and any other form of inspiration.
Another form of promotion or clicks over to your blog would be to post on style sites such as Lookbook. Lookbook is a platform online for all different fashion influencers where they can post an outfit and people view them.
As it gets higher on the page list, more people start following and clicking over to your blog if you put a description with your link to your blog. It is a great way to start gaining a viewership and followers.
Being consistent is the key to blogging success. If you’re consistent, people are going to find your blog interesting and the fact that you update regularly is going to mean a lot to them.
If you want to start a blog, then you should make a rough schedule of when or how often you will be posting. You need to set realistic and achievable goals then slowly work up from that. It may be difficult at first but you have to put work in if you enjoy it and you want it to grow.
Still Wondering How To Start A Fashion Blog?
Discussed above are great tips would on how to start a fashion blog.
Define your content, invest in good photography, get connected and be confident in all you do then you will succeed at fashion blogging and make money while at it.
As a blogger, you can provide something that no one else in this world could provide. Embrace your individuality and you will have quality blogs.

The Top 4 Rolex Watches Every Discerning Collector Needs
Rolex is one of the largest brands of watch in the world. In fact, evidence has shown that Rolex watches are bigger and more popular than Longines, Omega and Cartier watches combined. Not only do Rolex watches look great, but they’re also a great investment. In fact, Rolex watches can double in price in just one year. If you don’t believe us, go into a watch shop and look at the price of a Rolex, then check out the price tag of the same model of watch from the previous year. There’s a good chance that the watch was half the price last year than it is now. So, if you’re buying a watch as an investment, then a Rolex is a brilliant option for you.
Whether you’re a discerning collector or you’re simply looking for an investment piece of jewellery, Rolex is the way to go. From gold Rolexes to the Submariner, here are some of the best and most popular Rolex watches every discerning collector needs in 2020:
1. The Rolex Milgauss
Magnetic watches from sites like CHRONEXT have become an extremely popular choice in the UK in 2020, but no-one makes them better than Rolex. You can find their whole range via CHRONEXT, but the Rolex Milgauss in particular is an exceptionally robust magnetic wristwatch.
It was developed with researchers, scientists and engineers in mind. The Milgauss is one of the most revolutionary watches ever developed. Rolex created this watch to be able to withstand strong electromagnetic fields. While you may not be working in an environment that has strong electromagnetic fields, you can be sure that this watch is one of the most durable watches ever produced.
Not only is this amazing watch robust and durable, but it is also elegant and functional. It was designed to be worn in busy work environments, in the great outdoors and everywhere in between. The versatile nature of this watch makes it one of the most popular watches available on the market today.
If you want a watch that increases in value, then the Rolex Milgauss is a brilliant choice for you. Thanks to the rare features it has and highest quality metals used in the building of the product, this watch is a brilliant investment piece. The Rolex Milgauss is known for its distinctive character and design, meaning that it’s not only scientists and researchers that want it, but collectors too.
2. The Rolex Daytona
The Rolex Daytona was first introduced in 1963. It was marketed as a timing instrument for professional race-car drivers. Even though this watch was released over 50 years ago, the Rolex Daytona is still one of the most popular Rolex watches available to purchase today. This is mainly thanks to its impressive accuracy.
The Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500 is a more up to date version of the Rolex Daytona and was introduced in 2016. The Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500 was the first ever model to be built with a Cerachrom bezel (a ceramic material that resists ultraviolet rays and scratches).
Just like the Rolex Milgauss, this watch is a brilliant option for people wanting an investment piece of jewellery. Rolex Daytona watches that were purchased in the 1970s are currently selling for anywhere between £90,000 and £120,000, and the Rolex Daytona that was released in 2016 is already commanding prices of anywhere up to £26,000.
3. The Rolex Datejust
The Rolex Datejust is often known as the quintessential Rolex watch. The Datejust was first introduced by the company in 1945. This was the first wristwatch to ever contain a date complication. However, a few years after its release, Rolex updated the watch once again.
They chose to include a “Cyclops” magnifier in the design. This feature is now included on many of today’s Rolexes. The Cyclops can be used to magnify the date by over two and a half times. The fluted bezel, the elegant dial and the gold and steel fusion on this amazing watch have never been out of style. The simple design and warm elegance of the Datejust has never gone out of fashion with collectors around the world.
4. The Rolex Submariner
The Rolex Submariner is the current gold standard of diver’s watches. It was first introduced as an essential dive tool in 1953. To the inexperienced collector, the Rolex Submariner may look a bit plain, but it’s actually a high-performing piece of technology.
The Submariner looks great as a dress watch and can perform perfectly as an adventure watch too. This watch can be purchased with or without the date, but the no-date version of this watch is meant to be the most popular type of Rolex on the market today.
The popularity of the Rolex brand can’t be understated. In fact, rumour has it that this brand would be able to survive with all stores and staff in place even if it didn’t sell another watch for another ten years. Rolex watches are likely to continue to increase in popularity over the next few years. Which one is your favourite?
