Surrey is becoming one of the top cities in Canada where technology firms from around the world want to do business. More specifically, the Health and Technology District is booming on Innovation Boulevard near Surrey Memorial Hospital. About 20 companies have signed up to relocate to this location. Also, City Centre 1 Building has an extensive list of businesses that are expected to move in once construction is complete by the end of the year.
Lark Group’s City Centre 1 Building
During my interview with Rowena Rizzotti, the Vice President of Healthcare and Innovation at Lark Group, she stated “successful companies in health and multi-national companies from other nations” will move into a total of eight buildings. A few of the types of businesses that will call City Centre 1 Building its new corporate home are clinicians, technology firms, scientists, and health organizations.
The new district will bring in $1.1 billion in revenue every year into the economy, opening the doors for an estimated 15,000 jobs. Furthermore, innovate products will be developed for international export.
Technology Career Opportunities
Once these companies move to Surrey, it will benefit the local economy. Furthermore, with this information in mind it will give job seekers enough time to build on their current skills and update their resumes to be prepared to apply for new positions at this location. In a recent HR Tech Group update, Allison Rutherford at HR Tech Group shared the following:
“Overall, salaries for intermediate technology professionals in British Columbia went up 5.8% from the previous year, according to HR Tech Group’s findings. The increase demonstrates that companies are growing and prioritizing retention to keep their employees engaged.” The technology jobs that have seen a high salary increase include:
- Product Development Managers: up 16.5%
- Sales Managers: up 10.5%
- Senior Animators: up 7.6%
The survey consists of information that includes “15,904 individual salaries from 112 companies.”
