Meet Surrey Girl, Monika Levarsky

Nursing Student & Behavioural Interventionist/ Respite Care

Grew up in: Sullivan Heights | My favourite thing about growing up in Surrey was that I was surrounded by many parks and lived close to Crescent Beach. I always remember my childhood exploring new parks and enjoying the adventure that came along with it.

I love that Surrey is very multicultural and everybody is accepted for who they are. I never feel out of place, no matter what part of Surrey I’m in; it makes me feel comfortable and feels like home. I’m proud to be from Surrey because it’s so unique.

Surrey has a city and a country side all meshed into one and it’s nice to have a variety of different activities you can enjoy whether you’re a city or country girl.

Surrey is somewhere I feel safe. People’s conception of Surrey is usually bad, but every city has good and bad. People usually disregard the beauty of being so central to so many places and how it’s such a growing, and developing city.

Being labelled as a Surrey Girl makes me feel confident to walk in my shoes no matter where I am, unique because I’m part of a beautiful developing city, and powerful because I am in charge of how people judge me and judge what it means to be a Surrey Girl.

Finish this sentence: Proud to be a Surrey Girl because…

It made me FABULOUS.

About | In addition to being a student in the Nursing Program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Monika also works with autistic children, helping them to develop social and communication skills. She previously played soccer at UFV and has received awards for her athletic achievements.

About The Surrey Girl Project | The goal of The Surrey Girl Project is to change what people think of when they hear the term ‘Surrey Girl’ by highlighting some of the diverse and talented women born and/ or raised in Surrey. Our hope is to flip the term upside down and give it a makeover, to show how amazing it is to be a female from Surrey. Photo Credit: Ally Fotografy
