Grew up in: Whalley | Surrey is a beautiful, growing city. It keeps evolving and is so beautiful. I travel a lot with my work and the cities I have seen that are described as run down are actually that; Surrey gets called similar things and is looked down on, and yet there is so much good here.

There are awesome shopping malls, parks galore, and the multiculturalism is just so beautiful. It is also much more affordable to live in Surrey than elsewhere in the Lower Mainland. My studio is in Surrey and from where I live it’s a short drive to pretty much anywhere. There are so many amazing things to do in this city and I love how one moment you have these beautiful parks and around the corner you get downtown feels; it makes me proud to be where I’m from.

Growing up in Surrey I lived right down the street from Surrey Central Mall. I loved being able to walk down to the 7-Eleven and the mall shopping area. I was in the hub of Surrey which meant I could walk everywhere- I love that everything is so close! I was blessed to grow up in a place that is ever evolving. It  has shaped me to be the woman I am today and it continues to grow.

What does being a Surrey Girl mean to you?

A Surrey Girl is just like any other girl that has been raised in her city. She loves it and she owns it. No it’s not perfect, but where is? A Surrey Girl knows her core values. She is street smart yet she is open to people in different walks of life. She walks proud and she is strong.

About The Surrey Girl Project | The goal of The Surrey Girl Project is to change what people think of when they hear the term ‘Surrey Girl’ by highlighting some of the diverse and talented women born and/ or raised in Surrey. Our hope is to flip the term upside down and give it a makeover, to show how amazing it is to be a female from Surrey. Photo Credit: Ally Fotografy
