Christmas Train at Bear Creek Park

Come ride the Christmas Train Bear Creek Park.  Visit with Santa and receive a candy cane, Christmas activity kit and enjoy a train ride through the Christmas forest.  Santa is at the station December 9 – 24th. Admission: $11 + taxes (adults & children).

Aequitas Singers Choir Rehearsals

The Aequitas Singers group meets regularly to promote respect and equality. The group represents a not-for-profit choir accepting everyone. No auditioning is necessary.

The purpose of the choir is to sing, learn, share and support. Ongoing rehearsals take place every Tuesday evening from September to June.

New members are always welcome! The cost to join is $60 per term (September to January, or February to June), which covers the cost of performance music.

Pre-teen Dances

All pre-teen dances take place on Friday night from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm and are for kids ages 10 to 12 years old. 

Drop by a recreation facility in Surrey for your next pre-teen dance! We have great concession, awesome light shows, and music that you and your friends will love to dance to. Our pre-teen dances have Parks, Recreation and Culture staff on site to ensure a safe, supervised and fun time for kids. There will also be excellent prizes to win and seasonal themed dances.

Guildford Pickle Ball Tournament 2018

Gamelan Music Field Trip

This is free event open to ages of 15-30. No art skills required.

Join us as we visit artist George Rahi in his studio in Vancouver. See how George creates gamelan musical instruments out of recycled materials. Make some music in our group jam session. No previous music or art skills required. If you are unfamiliar with this genre of music, check out George’s band Gamelan Bike Bike.

This trip will help inspire our next community art project. Our Community Art Planning Team in City Centre is exploring how to create their own musical instruments and hold flash mob-style music events. This team is a group of youth and young adults that works together to create different art projects. New members are always welcome to join.

Artist Talk: Hossam Meawad

Hossam Meawad graduated with honours from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and Art History. He received a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia and has been working for the City of Surrey since April 2017. He is currently involved in the management and coordination of various public art projects across the city.

Did you know Surrey has over 70 public artworks? In this illustrated talk, Hossam will introduce you to several of them, highlighting different types of artwork from paintings and murals to monumental sculptures and light-based artwork. You’ll learn about Surrey’s Public Art Program, including how Surrey residents are involved in the selection process and why artworks are chosen for certain places.

Alie Slabenko
Alie Slabenko is a local writer and poet passionate about human rights. She recently completed the New Media Journalism Program at Simon Fraser University. She also holds a Masters in Tax Crimes from Russia and PDD in Marketing from Douglas College in Vancouver. Alie has volunteered for the YVR airport magazine as a creative contributor and written several travel and lifestyle articles for an online Russian magazine. She is a traveler by heart and has visited Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, China, and the USA. In her free time Alie likes to paint, take photographs, write poems, and manage her social justice oriented website. Alie is a human rights advocate who seeks to serve people through her journalistic skills focusing on racism, transgender rights, women rights, and human trafficking.
