JRG Sleepout Raises Over $150,000 to Support Youth Homelessness

Over $150,000 Fundraised as a Result of Last Night’s 2nd Annual Joseph Richard Group Sleepout

The Joseph Richard Group held its 2nd Annual Sleep Out event recently in the parking lot of the Grandview Corners Shopping Centre in South Surrey. Having raised over $115,000 last year, the Fraser Valley based hospitality group had set lofty expectations on participation and fundraising for the second instalment. This year, JRG extended the invitation to friends, family and other local business and community leaders to get involved and help raise awareness for homeless youth and the community responded.

At the time of this publication, the movement had raised $156, 266.39 and counting to go towards Covenant House Vancouver and Youth Unlimited. In total, there were approximately 165 people who participated in the event, heading out to the parking lot between S+L Kitchen & Bar, South Surrey and Coast Capital Savings off 24th Avenue in Surrey at 9pm and remained there until 6:00am this morning.

“It was just amazing to see the support this event has generated,” said CEO and Co-Founder of the Joseph Richard Group Ryan Moreno. He first participated in Covenant House Vancouver’s Sleep Out: Executive Edition two years ago, felt that more could be done and came up with the idea to create the Fraser Valley Edition last year. “Last year was great to see the staff really get behind it but this year it has gone to a whole new level with friends, family and other local business and community leaders getting involved. We hope next year can be even bigger and continue to grow annually.”

Besides The Joseph Richard Group the following business’ organized teams to participate: Dana Matheson (C&D Logistics), Jen Hamilton (Oxygen Yoga), Darian Kovacs (Jelly Marketing), Randy Watson (Village Church), Matt Dryfhout (Scout Technology Guides), Angie Quaale (Well Seasoned), San Bhatha (Southridge Dental), George (A&W South Surrey), Mike Penno (Penno Plumbing), Mackenzie (SPINCO Cloverdale), Ryan Cyr (Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Coaches), Rob Visnjak (Rob Visnjak Personal Real Estate Corporation), Renee (Mountain View Veterinary Hospital), Aaron Steinfeld (Newton Hi Quality Meats), Will Loftus (Game Ready Fitness), Brandon Drewlo (Novacom Building Partners), Dave (Sparo Mortgage Advisors) and Chris Wakefield (Tim Horton’s).

As Moreno mentioned, plans for the 3rd Annual JRG Sleep Out are underway but not before Ryan and Co-Founder Andre Bourque participate in this year’s Covenant House Vancouver: Executive Edition Sleep Out on November 15th in downtown Vancouver where they will sleep on the streets for a second night. Donations are still being taken to support the cause at
