Molson Coors provides 20,000 meals to healthcare heroes and now invites Canadians to help

In honour of International Nurses Day, Molson Coors Beverage Company in Canada will be providing 20,000 frontline healthcare workers with a meal of their choosing to thank them for their tireless work in fighting COVID-19 and creating a better tomorrow.

In coordination with hospitals, gift card codes for SkipTheDishes are being offered to frontline healthcare workers at hospitals in communities where Molson Coors brews: Mount Sinai Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospital in Ontario, Montreal General Hospital in Quebec, Chilliwack General Hospital in British Columbia, Health Sciences Centre in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital in New Brunswick.

Molson Coors is now inviting the public to send meals to healthcare heroes too, through a GoFundMe page which will collect funds for meals beyond the initial pledge of 20,000. Already, SkipTheDishes has raised the meal count by 2,800, donating $70,000 to existing efforts. Canadians can share a meal by donating at this link; every $25 raised will provide a meal to a frontline healthcare hero. The GoFundMe page will collect donations from today until May 31, after which meal codes will be distributed proportionally to the hospitals.

“Our founder John Molson built the first public hospital in Montreal out of the desire to help those in need and make his community a better place,” said Fred Landtmeters, President of Molson Coors Canada. “Canadian healthcare workers are selflessly caring for those in need to create a better tomorrow for all of us. While we can’t help these heroes on the frontline, we can certainly thank them with the gesture of a meal.”

Beyond thanking the frontline, these contributions also serve to help the restaurant industry. With establishments closed for dine-in services, home delivery has a heightened role to play for restaurant owners and consumers alike. Having a meal as the value exchanged provides a role for restaurants to play in this gesture of appreciation.

“We’re proud to support Molson Coors on a program that not only thanks healthcare workers who are working tirelessly to fight COVID-19, but also helps our restaurant partners facing unprecedented hardships.” says Rob Payne, Vice President, National Partnerships at SkipTheDishes. The meals for healthcare heroes program is the latest in a series of COVID-19 relief efforts from Molson Coors which has included support to communities of small businesses, freelancers and artists in Canada.

Previous and ongoing initiatives also include offering repurposed trucks and drivers to help transport non-perishable and/or medical supplies, donating 10% of their craft breweries’ curbside pickup and delivery revenue to the Bartender’s Benevolent Fund, and matching a significant donation to the Centraide du Grand Montréal (United Way).

5 places to order Cheesecake from for National Cheesecake Day!

Your favourite holiday is just around the corner and no, we’re not talking about August long weekend. National Cheesecake day is happening on July 30th, and we have five delicious suggestions and where you can find yourself a slice. Although you probably don’t need a reason to order a slice of cheesecake, there is something about a national holiday that makes it feel more valid. Try one of these delicious Vancouver offerings (or try all 5, we won’t tell) and celebrate this sweet holiday.

The Cheesecake Factory Bakery

Known for its premium, indulgent cheesecakes in America, the Cheesecake Factory Bakery is now available by the slice in Vancouver. The sought after brand has partnered with the local hospitality group, Joseph Richard Group, to offer the decadent cakes across Vancouver and the lower mainland. The cakes are available at all JRG Public Houses and Stanley Park Brewpub for dine-in or take-out from JRG’s Online Shop as well as for delivery by Sweet Tooth Desserts on Doordash, SkipTheDishes and Uber Eats. The cakes are delivered right to your doorstep, how can you say no?

Small Victory:

Just a glimpse of the Small Victory menu will have your mouth watering. Known for their delicious coffees and pastries – Small Victory serves up three select flavours of cheesecake. Try the Passion Fruit, Raspberry, or Salted Caramel – there is literally no wrong choice. There’s no need to commit to just one flavour either, because Small Victory offers pieces by the slice so that you may treat yourself but not overindulge. The cakes are available for pick-up and dine-in at the store location.

True Confections:

Eye pleasing creations from true Confections somehow manage to taste better than they look. These handcrafted cheesecakes are sure to impress any cheesecake lover, with a wide selection of additional flavours and side options. Available by the whole cake or by the slice, True Confections gives you a taste of the sweet life and makes the ideal celebration. Whether you prefer a classic New York cheesecake or the Black Top Marble – you’re sure to be satisfied by True Confections. The cakes are available for pick-up and dine-in at their store location.

Uncle Tetsu

This legendary Japanese cheesecake is the perfect way to (literally) shake things up for National Cheesecake day! Each Cheesecake is made with carefully selected ingredients in precise quantities, including decadent cream cheese, premium butter, and the finest farm-fresh eggs! The Cheesecakes are baked with a crisp golden finish and a soft, wobbly texture. Uncle Tetsu cakes are a great alternative for those who do not want to commit to a dense cheesecake but would prefer a lighter treat.

Tree’s Coffee

Tree’s Coffee offers a delicious organic cheesecake made using all-natural ingredients. Prepared fresh each day, the organic cheesecakes taste best with a cup of their house brewed coffee. The cakes are available in store and for take-away and come in both 6” and 10” sizes. Tree’s makes the bold claim to have the best cheesecake in Vancouver. We guess you’ll just have to taste them all to find out!

With bars and nightclubs no longer a viable business model, chef Kai Leitner is bringing experiential dining to the Granville Entertainment District

Vancouver, BC: Originally conceived as a late night party destination, The Living Room at Hotel Belmont is combating the COVID-19 crisis by pivoting to a food focused restaurant and bar where the great menu, funky design, and stellar service will add a missing element to the Granville Entertainment District.

Chef Kai Leitner, previously of Bishops and the runner up for best chef in Vancouver in the 2020 Georgia Straight Golden Plates Awards, has created approachable, house made small plates with fresh and locally sourced ingredients designed for sharing; while Beverage Manager Zach Preston has curated a cocktail menu featuring the colours and flavours of summer, alongside all of the standard classics.

“The hospitality industry as a whole is facing a number of challenges right now, and the bar and nightclub model which made us so successful last year just doesn’t make sense in the current environment.” says Jasmine Mooney, Director of Marketing for Hotel Belmont.

The new and improved menu features 24 dishes from land, garden, and ocean—from Smoked Beef Tartare & a Meat Burgoo and Black Truffle Flatbread, to Cauliflower Fritters, and a Beet Carpaccio with Burrata, to King Crab, and Mussels Rockefeller. Chef Leitner hopes to bring a missing element to the city’s largest entertainment district – food fit for a fine dining environment, but in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

“Our greatest responsibility right now is creating a safe environment for our staff and our guests, ensuring that all regulations and recommendations put in place are being followed, while still having the fun and energetic atmosphere that we’re known for.” Says Mooney. “We recognized that in order to do this, we needed to pivot and really focus on being a great place for dinner and cocktails, rather than just a great place to party.”

About Hotel Belmont: Hotel Belmont opened their trendy 82 room boutique hotel, and their food and beverage offerings The Living Room and The Basement to great fanfare in May 2019 and were recognized as Vancouver’s “Best New Destination” at the 2019 Golden Owl Awards, which recognizes the best of Vancouver’s hospitality industry.
