Contest: Ride in Style with Pacific Commuter

Meet Darian Kovacs and Chris Geoghegan of Pacific Commuter.  They want to improve your commuting experience. Can you tell? Darian and Chris are friends and business partners who wanted to provide the residents of Cloverdale, Langley and Aldergrove the option of travelling in a luxury bus on their commute to downtown Vancouver. They were both disillusioned with the long and frustrating downtown commute and decided that they wanted to offer a service that would allow professionals to go green and ride on a luxury bus with amenities to make the commute comfortable and productive. As a result, they produced Pacific Commuter. Pacific Commuter operates their schedule around a typical 9am to 5pm workday. Pickups are in Langley and Cloverdale and drop-offs are in 3 different areas of the downtown core. What are some of the amenities? Wi-fi, bathroom, reclining leather chair, table at your seat, and a kitchenette to prepare your breakfast. You...

Part 2 The Inside Scoop: Whalley Little League Play

By Garth Newlands. Continued from Part 1: In Your Community - Whalley Little League Now that the league stuff is out of the way I will tell you a bit about my son’s team and division. He is on the 9-12 year old minor Yankees team; they have been doing well and are in 2nd place right now out of the 4 teams in their division on the season. The 9 year olds find it a little intimidating at times playing with the older boys and girls. Yes girls, Whalley is a mixed league and you will find that most teams have at least one girl on them, but there is no special treatment. They are there to play with the boys and do very well. The younger ones stand right in there at bat and some pitchers fire the ball, but that’s baseball. There are some walks and some...

HSBC City of Bhangra: Celebrate the Harvest

The HSBC City of Bhangra Festival came to Surrey on Saturday to Celebrate the Harvest. The day was filled with performances from dance groups of all ages and featured traditional and modern bhangra music. It was great to see so many people enjoying the festivities, being interactive and learning about Bhangra music and dance. The concept of Celebrate the Harvest joins people together to not only appreciate arts and culture, but also to provide an opportunity for people to discover the richness of all cultures within their communities. This year’s Celebrate the Harvest featured Israeli folk dancers and Punjabi dancers coming together for the first time on stage. There were a good number of volunteers mingling in the crowd and we got a chance to chat with some of them about their involvement in this year’s festival. Volunteerism is important to execute an event such as this, and it was...

Some people know Jillian Harris as the girl who tried to find love through a reality TV show. We know her as Jillian Harris, a proud Canadian woman from Peace River, Alberta who loves the smell of campfire, has a passion for design and revels in the comforts of home. I had a chance to sit down with Jillian after her appearance at Live at Wave. There are many young women who admire Jillian’s successes and curious to know how this small-town girl has been able to make great strides in her career and live a fulfilling life. Jillian’s inspirations began from her mother who ran an antique shop and instilled the importance of the meaning and character attached to the special things that make up a home. This notion is apparent in Jillian’s design style of mixing the old with the new in a meaningful way. In life we...
