Top 4: Pitt Meadows local Matthew Astorga dishes about MasterChefCanada

Matthew Astorga is a digital design consultant from Scarborough, Ont., currently residing in Pitt Meadows, B.C. Matthew first discovered his love for cooking after making his first dish, an omelette, when he lied to his babysitter and told her he was allowed to use the stove. Completely self-taught in the kitchen, Matthew has a love for cookbooks and is inspired by ingredients, letting each of them dictate what he is going to cook for that day. He thoroughly enjoys cooking with fresh produce and ingredients that he finds at local farmer's markets. There is nothing more enjoyable then knowing where your food comes from. If Matthew can source something locally, that’s his preference. In the kitchen, Matthew can be found listening to “Sleepless” by Flume, and cooking up a storm with his cast iron skillet. As a top 4 finalist, Matthew is looking to experience and learn as much as he can while in the...

Ashamed to talk to family and friends, it took some major soul searching and asking for help to get her where she is today. This girl is a force to be reckoned with and is an inspiration to many. Q: What was the inspiration behind "Pay it Forward"? I...
