Volkswagen has been enjoying quite the sales rally in the last few years. Driven by a solid product line-up, clever advertising, and a great ownership community, there are more Volkswagens than ever on the streets of Metro Vancouver today.
Indeed now that winter’s icy grip on the country has let go, Volkswagen Canada has enjoyed stronger and even record setting nationwide sales.
To service the growing demand for Volkswagen’s product offerings, OpenRoad Auto Group has commenced work on a sizable plot of land on the corner of Lougheed Highway and Boundary Road in Burnaby.
In approximately one year’s time, summer 2015, this site will be the home of OpenRoad Volkswagen.
The building is slated to have a state-of-the-art showroom, 18 service bays, and roof top parking for 100 cars. OpenRoad will also be relocating the majority of their head office team to this location.
To mark off the official start of the project, appropriately dubbed the “Unearthing”, OpenRoad Auto Group invited Mayor Derek Corrigan – Mayor of the City of Burnaby – and Maria Strenstrom – President & CEO of Volkswagen Canada – to join OpenRoad President & CEO, Christian Chia, in the official ground-breaking of the upcoming dealership.
The #Unearthing event, which took place on Tuesday May 27th, also included the presence of VW enthusiasts from Strictly German Volkswagen Association and UBC E-beetle, and of course their rides.
“It’s great to see some old and some new Volkswagen examples today. It’s this long history of car culture that initially drew me to Volkswagen many years ago”, said OpenRoad President, Christian Chia.
A few of VW’s newest offerings, including the much anticipated 7th generation 2015 VW Golf GTI, were also on display.
A special German themed event wouldn’t be complete without the appropriate German treats.
Not wanting to disappoint, the team at OpenRoad had specially arranged for gastronomic delights supplied by the CandyMeister truck and Serious Sausage.
“To me, VW is the ideal brand for the city of Burnaby and Metro Vancouver. When we think of the things that make this a great city and a great place to work and live, it’s the same traits that you’d find in VW cars. It’s the people’s car and that means it’s a sustainable product, it’s exciting, innovative, and youthful. That’s what the city of Burnaby is about, what Metro Vancouver is about, and also what OpenRoad is about”, said Christian Chia.
“Thank you for the trust that OpenRoad has put into the Volkswagen brand…OpenRoad being voted one of the 50th best employers in Canada goes along with what VW expects of the excellent in our own brand and what we continue to strive of the ownership experience. We look forward to standing in the new showroom next summer”, said Maria Strenstrom, President & CEO of Volkswagen Canada.
