A BACK-TO-BASICS CHRISTMAS
Historic Stewart Farm offers classic holiday fun all season long
Take a step back in time at Historic Stewart Farm’s annual Christmas Open House on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This free family friendly annual event has become the site’s most anticipated event of the holiday season, offering live music, performances by the Re-enactors, crafts, tasty treats and a chance to meet and greet Saint Nicholas on his life-size antique sleigh (from 12:30-2:30 p.m.).
“Christmas is such a busy time for families, but here at the farm, it’s a place to press pause, connect with loved ones and enjoy a truly unique sensory experience,” said Jerrilin Spence, site curator.
“It goes beyond imagining what Christmas was like back in 1894 - you get to taste the fresh-baked cookies hot out of the wood stove, smell the local greenery on the verandah and hear the sounds of sleigh bells and singing.”
And for visitors of all ages, the event serves as a reminder that presence trumps presents.
“Singing carols, crafting decorations and making old-fashioned toys like families did 100 years ago helps today’s families to enjoy the season together in a simple, natural way,” said Spence.
While every day at the farm in December is a chance to escape the holiday mania, additional family friendly activities are scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on the following days:
- Saturday, Dec. 1
- Sunday, Dec. 9
- Saturday, Dec. 15
- Sunday, Dec. 16
- Saturday, Dec. 22
- Sunday, Dec. 23
- Thursday, December 27
- Friday, December 28
- Saturday, December 29
- Sunday, December 30
