Event Details

Abdirahman Abdi — a Somali-Canadian man who died after a violent arrest by two Ottawa police officers in 2016 — reacted with a mixture of sadness and outrage after one of the officers was acquitted of all criminal charge on October 20th. Const. Daniel Montsion was found not guilty of manslaughter, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in a judgment rendered by Justice Robert Kelly of the Ontario Court of Justice. Kelly ruled the Crown failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Montsion's actions caused Abdi's death. Join us for a rally for Justice for Abidirahman Abdi on Sunday November 1st at 4 pm at Holland Park in what is known as Surrey on these occupied, traditional, ancestral, and unceeded territories of the Coast Salish peoples – specifically the Kwantlen, Semiahmoo, Stolo, Musqueam, Katzie and Qayqayt Nations.
