Competitive Paint Off | March 23 | 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Surrey, BC -  Association (SAGA) invites local artists and the community to a Competitive Paint Off at Surrey Art Gallery on March 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free. In this action-filled evening, twelve professional artists will face off in four 25-minute rounds using oil sticks. The audience will watch and vote for their favourite artist after each round. Winners from the first three rounds will compete in the final, fourth round, and the audience will decide on the “People’s Art Champion” at the end of the evening.

From start to finish, audience members will gain a behind-the-scenes look at how artists plan and execute a work. For those itching to create a work, there will be a collaborative art station set up in the room. All ages are welcome, including families. “In celebration of Surrey Art Gallery Association’s 35th anniversary this year, we wanted to host a high-energy event, fun for everyone,” says Melissa Burgher, SAGA Vice-President. “This Paint Off showcases the talents of local artists who are also SAGA members, as well as brings together artists and art fans in Surrey.”

After the competition, the artists have the choice to sell their paintings through Surrey Art Gallery Association’s Art Rental Program or to keep them. Artists interested in participating in this event can find eligibility criteria and an application form at Applications are due March 1.

Surrey Art Gallery Association (SAGA) is a non-profit organization begun in 1984 that offers its members the opportunity to participate in and respond to contemporary art, and be part of a community that actively supports Surrey Art Gallery. In 1986, they started a gift shop to provide a marketplace for artists and an art rental program that gives art lovers the opportunity to enjoy artworks in their homes and offices at a low cost. SAGA also hosts Thursday Artist Talks where artists show and discuss their work with the public on the first Thursday of each month.
