Drop in to create, explore, and enjoy art with friends and family on the theme "Connecting the Pieces"!
Make art with puzzles, paints, and puppets inspired by our winter exhibitions. The artworks ask you to consider relationships between objects, ideas, and yourself and the world. Use different materials to explore these relationships.
When you first step into the main gallery, you will be greeted with local artist Nicoletta Baumeister’s large, bright paintings of nature and geometric shapes. Using a guidebook that you can make upon arrival, roam the Gallery to discover the artworks. Baumeister’s artworks in In the Realm of Perception use visual tricks and illusions to make you look closer and question what you are looking at. Enjoy a hands-on collage activity led by the artist. You’ll also have the chance to paint your own nature picture.
In another studio, personalize your own puppet inspired by the exhibit Triangle Trade. This short film by Camille Turner, Jérôme Havre, and Cauleen Smith features three puppets, who live on separate islands that represent themselves, made of materials like paper, fabric, and paint. Be sure to spend some time viewing it in our TechLab while you’re here!
Though you may not be able to solve the sea of puzzle pieces that make up the interactive sculpture Gambler, you can collaborate and play with a new puzzle of your own creation.
At 12pm, 1pm, or 2:30pm, join a thirty-minute interactive performance by Vancouver Puppet Theatre involving songs, dance, and different sized puppets. Your dialogue is needed to complete the story! Pick up your free tickets on arrival to reserve your spot. The 2:30pm show will be a relaxed performance.
There will also be a dedicated sensory-friendly space to explore this Family Sunday.
