MAY 2020–On May 15, Surrey Civic Theatres presents the third performance from their newly launched Digital Stage, a recent initiative to support local artists and performers that audiences can enjoy from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
The show will feature musicians Sami Ghawi of FUSIONPresents and Maya Rae. This lively and upbeat hour-long show will feature Ghawi on guitar, and Rae’s melodic vocals. Join the duo for eclectic pop, jazz favourites and soulful originals as they captivate audiences with their magnetic personalities, her gorgeous voice, and his beautiful guitar stylings.
Ghawi and Rae began working together in 2011 when Rae was just nine-years- old. Upon hearing her voice, Ghawi says he knew Rae was destined to be a star. Rae’s first ever live stage performance was at West Beach with Sami for FUSIONpresents Sunday Night Jam. Since then, the duo has performed together across the province for thousands of audience members and have collaborated on many original songs.
Ghawi, who has hosted the Sunday Night Jam in White Rock for more than a decade, and is also a huge advocate for music and arts in Surrey said he is thrilled to be a part of this new City of Surrey initiative. "I’m so grateful for this opportunity from the City of Surrey that gives artists the chance to perform and entertain the public in a time when we can’t meet in person. Being offered a platform to perform and get paid when all our scheduled shows have been cancelled overnight is a huge blessing.
I think audiences will enjoy an hour of quality entertainment that’s engaging, and also a community builder that brings us all together. We may not be able to be together physically, but shows like this are a small window of connection, a way to enjoy company, music and communicate, which has high value for us all."
Performing Arts Manager, Kent Gallie said, "Surrey Civic Theatres are a gathering place where artists, audience and our community connect and find inspiration. During this time when people cannot come together in physical proximity, we are committed to finding ways for people to connect and find inspiration in virtual space."
This concert is being filmed outdoors using the recommended physical distancing parameters and has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.
