Our fundraiser - It's about Connections is 8 days away and we need your help! Do you have parents and students who might need to hear about hope related to mental health and substance use disorders?
The Surrey North Delta Local Action Team for Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use (an offshoot of the Division of Family Practice) is holding a fundraiser at the Surrey Arts Centre on June 4, 2019 at 6 PM. Over 100 youth have agreed to donate their time to perform (dance, song, stories of lived experience, as well as contributing their visual arts) in order to support our team to continue raising awareness about Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. The proceeds will be used by our team to continue our work helping to educate the public and connect services around these important issues.
Our team has created free community events in order to help parents, caregivers, teachers, counsellors and anyone who cares for youth learn about the origins of these problems as well as what we can do next. We are a collaborative team of community partners (physicians, teachers, school counsellors, community counsellors, MCFD, CMH members, public health nurses, YMCA members, etc.) whose goal is to help support caregivers and youth who are struggling with their mental health and addictions.
Following the first act which is filled with the arts: dance, song and stories we will have an intermission where attendees can see the work of local youth artists who have used art as a way to express their feelings. The second half of our show will feature the documentary called, Broken Places. This documentary chronicles the lives of several families across decades to see how they navigate life. Woven into the story is information on how trauma and adverse childhood experiences shape what happens to us later in life.
We are 8 days out and our ticket sales are sadly on the slow side. If you're able to help us out by blasting out this invite on your social media to anyone you know who might be interested in seeing this amazing show, please feel free to send this attached poster along. Please help us support these kids who are coming out to dance, sing and put their hearts on display. It would be shame not to have people witness this event. It's going to be amazing!
We have two brave youths who are also going to come and tell their stories of struggle and healing. Young people and parents who are experiencing their own problems may find hearing their stories very inspiring and motivating. It's going to be a powerful evening of dance, song and survival and we hope to share this with as many people as we can! This event will help us support youth in Surrey, North Delta, Delta and beyond.
Thank you for your support! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all.
