Please help us by advertising and promoting our event.
With all of the uncertainty with COVID-19, we wanted to create a campaign, so people could still have a way to support us and also stay active while in self-isolation, self-quarantine, or physical distancing.
With the outbreak of COVID-19 expected to continue into the summer, with no end in sight, our hospice society which relies on holding fundraising events has had to cancel all our events. This has meant a great loss in our organizational revenues. This reduction in funding has placed the operations and indeed the very existence of our Society and our programs in jeopardy. Because of this, the Surrey Hospice Society is making changes to the way that funding is achieved; we are trying to go virtual.
Surrey Hospice Society is a volunteer based, non-profit organization rooted in the community of Surrey, BC Canada. We provide a wide variety of services and programs - all free of charge - for those facing the end of their life, hospice and palliative care, as well as grief and bereavement support for adults, children and youth who have lost people they love.
We need your help to continue to offer these services and programs as the demand for us is higher than it has ever been and continues to grow daily in these challenging times.
HEART & SOLE : Virtual Hike for Hospice
Surrey Hospice Society is encouraging people to register for Heart and Sole a Virtual Hike for Hospice and to join together virtually for a 1km, 5km, 10km walk, run or bike ride. People can go to a nearby park, walk or ride on one of the beautiful paths and walking trails in your community, use a treadmill, stationary bike or even walk around your yard.
You can participate as a Virtual Hiker! A virtual Hike for Hospice will allow you to create your own Hike. Whether that's around your property at home, on a treadmill if you have one, or safely around your community. If you do choose to hike around your community, we ask that you please obey all signs and/or notices and also please practice physical distancing to protect yourself, and others, we are counting on you for imaginative ways to take the steps virtually. For the protection of everyone’s health and safety when walking, please follow the Public Health direction that it is important to maintain the recommended physical distance.
You will be able to reach out to friends and family using our forms and this fundraising page to collect donations. The hike this year is as much about mental health as it is about fundraising. Get people together virtually, and do something fun.
- Complete an individual Run or Hike in your own time & pace at any destination of your choice. Please be safe and follow all recommendations from our Chief Medical Officer that are in place currently.
- Do you have someone you are walking, running, biking or hiking in honor or memory of? Feel free to send us a picture along with their name, and we will share it in our public, “In Memory & Honor Album
- Make a connection with us on social media by tagging us on Facebook, Twitter or on Instagram & using the hashtag #heart&solehikeforhospice2020
- Make a donation to Surrey Hospice Society in honor of the loved one you are Walking, Running, Biking or Hiking. 100% of the funds raised in our community remain in our communities
We would love for everyone to send us photos or videos of your hike. Feel free to include a message of encouragement or the reason you are participating. Participants can send those photos and videos to us and we would love to share some of your photos and videos on our social media channels. Celebrate life and remember a loved one. Announces 1st Contactless Donation Drive in Surrey
Surrey, BC – COVID-19 Women’s Initiative (CWI) invites the community and media to attend the first contactless donation drive in Surrey Friday, July 10, 2020. Supplies from the drive will be donated to local women’s shelters and transition homes.
COVID-19 Women’s Initiative (CWI) is a non-profit, student-led organization of medical students, physicians and community members across Canada. This initiative was founded by two medical students in Toronto who recognized a need to help women who are in challenging circumstances, further heightened by COVID-19. Initially launching in Toronto, CWI has expanded to 5 Canadian cities, including Vancouver, with over 200 volunteers, most of whom are medical students. The drive, supported by Canadian Gold Medal Ice Hockey Player Hayley Wickenheiser, is urging businesses and individuals to donate sealed and unused PPE, toiletries, women’s clothing, household items, food, toys and art supplies.
"Donations to women’s shelters and transition homes have dropped considerably during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many women and children without basic life-sustaining necessities,” said Hayley Wickenheiser. “Unfortunately, these services are needed now more than ever due to increasing financial hardship and gender-based violence. The gender inequities caused by COVID-19 are going to continue unless we, as communities, decide to pitch in. It’s time we come together and help support the women and children that need it the most."
Alternate drop-off locations in Vancouver (505 Burrard Street) and Richmond (13880 Mayfield Place) at the same time.Media/press opportunities at 12pm on July 10th. For more information: Katherine Gray (President of CWI Vancouver) 250-571-6772 | firstname.lastname@example.org
