Final Skate at the Iconic Stardust Roller Rink in Surrey

The Stardust Roller Rink, at 10240 City Parkway in Surrey, has been the place where many met their future partners or celebrated their children’s birthdays. Since 1966 it has carved itself a niche in thousands of Surrey resident’s hearts. Now, after 51 years, the iconic Stardust is about to become dust!

Later this year, the WestStone Group is set to demolish the Stardust building to make way for another iconic structure, a 58-storey education mega-centre that is proposed to become Surrey’s tallest building.

This development, which is currently under a development permit application, is being built in partnership with the CIBT Education Group and will contain 15-20 independent learning institutions along with offering Surrey’s first custom student accommodation.

In conjunction with the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association, the WestStone Group is offering Surrey residents the opportunity to have one final skate at the Stardust.

There will be 4 public skates on Saturday, July 8th. Three of the daytime skate times are free events and the evening skate is being held by donation to The Surrey Food Bank “Tiny Bundles” charity. Please visit www.thelastskate.eventbrite.ca for tickets. Bonnie Burnside, manager of the Downtown Surrey BIA and former manager of the Stardust Roller Rink from 1973 to 2005, will be in the excavator to strike the first blow to demolish the building that formed such a big part of her life.

Bob Dominick, Vice President of the WestStone Group stated, “The Stardust has been part of so many people’s lives in Surrey over the past 51 years, we’ll be keeping a little part of it and letting it live on within the new building. This exciting education mega-centre will also impact many more people’s lives in the education field. I’m sure we’ll have some space somewhere to name a Stardust Room within the building”.
