Fort Langley Beer & Food Festival Shows that the ‘Burbs Have the Best Brews

The sun came out yesterday for 18 of BC’s best craft breweries to join forces in the birthplace of B.C. for the first-ever Fort Langley Beer and Food Festival. Hosted by Trading Post Brewing, the sold-out event celebrated local brews and eats outside of Vancouver’s big-city spotlight.

Joining Trading Post was Delta’s Four Winds, New West’s Steel Oak, Abbotsford’s Hathi Brewing, and more. On top of trying out tons of great beer, cider, wine, and spirits all in one place, attendees got to snack on goods from Blacksmith Bakery, Krause Berry Farms, and other local eateries. Local bands kept the good vibes up with a wide selection of cover songs, ranging from oldies to current pop.

The festival showed that you don’t need to venture into the city for a buzzed-about beer and a fun night out. One of the growing brewery-hopping spots showcased on the festival grounds was Port Moody. All of their neighboring breweries (Twin Sails, Yellow Dog, Parkside, and Moody Ales) were representing, giving attendees a taste of their Rocky Point setting.

Fruity beers paired perfectly with the sunny setting, with highlights including Hathi’s sweet Mango Bango Hefeweizen and Trading Post’s tart Raspberry Wheat Ale. Summery sips like Four Winds’ Saison and Field House’s Sour were also huge hits among festival-goers. The best part? Attendees could take home their favourites at the on-site liquor store to share their festival stories.

Up-and-coming brewers weren’t left out of the lineup – students from Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Brewing and Brewery Operations program shared their fresh creations with big brewery names and beer connoisseurs.

For its first year, the festival was a huge hit. It’s great to see breweries like Trading Post create a community among businesses and a platform for supporting each other.
