TSO Logic Returns to Greater Vancouver Clean Technology Expo & Championship
We caught up with TSO Logic, the winners of last year’s Greater Vancouver Clean Technology Expo & Championship, to see what they’ve been up to and their plans for the future.
REFRESH OUR MEMORY, TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR COMPANY.
TSO Logic delivers software solutions that optimize application delivery for data centers and cloud. Our platform provides unprecedented visibility into IT operations, along with actionable analytics and automated controls, for improving performance and reducing waste.
WHAT MAKES YOUR COMPANY CLEANTECH?
Last year we released a study with Stanford University’s Jon Koomey, a top researcher on the environmental impacts of technology, which concluded that 30 percent of physical servers in data centers were “comatose” — that is, they were powered on but had not delivered any useful services in six months or more. At TSO Logic we think that’s a lot like leaving your car running all day just in case you have to go somewhere.
With TSO Logic’s ability to deliver unprecedented visibility into data center environments, we are able to quickly analyze physical and virtual severs across multiple sites and correlate them with physical locations, and hardware models in order to identify costs, utilization levels, capacity and more. Using these analytics, our customers are combating server sprawl and making more efficient capacity planning decisions. On average, we have identified savings in excess of 30 percent with about half of them being recognized – and this equates to around 3 million kilowatt hours saved annually.
WHAT HAS YOUR COMPANY BEEN UP TO SINCE THE LAST CLEANTECH CHAMPIONSHIP?
Change, progress and momentum have been big themes for TSO Logic over the past year. We introduced new features to our platform, extended our patent portfolio, launched a new website with a stronger value proposition and announced partnerships with Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and ABB. Over the summer we will be launching TSO Match for cloud migration that will shift workloads from highly inefficient environments to ultra-efficient cloud-based environments – leading to substantial power reductions.
WHAT DID WINNING THE GREATER VANCOUVER CLEANTECH EXPO & CHAMPIONSHIP MEAN FOR TSO LOGIC?
This award was great recognition for our platform and helped us spread our message that it doesn’t take major changes to tackle server waste. Our team had a great day at the event and were inspired by the depth of cleantech companies in Greater Vancouver. We also enjoyed having the stunning trophy designed by Kwantlen Polytechnic University students at our office – a definite conversation starter.
WHAT DID YOU END UP DOING WITH THE $10,000 PRIZE MONEY?
After a small celebration with our team, most of the funds went into business development and marketing. At that time, the majority of our resources were focused on developing the technology so it was nice to earmark some additional funds to telling more people about what we do.
IF YOU WERE TO GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO OTHER CLEANTECH COMPANIES IN THE REGION TO PERFECT THEIR PITCH, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
The judges are smart and diverse in their backgrounds. It was the perfect combo for us to have someone from the business side to highlight the problem along with our value and then to combine that with someone from our tech team to demo the ins and outs of the technology.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AT THE 2016 GREATER VANCOUVER CLEANTECH CHAMPIONSHIP?
Of course we are looking forward to defending our title! And we are equally as excited to be challenged by other companies doing impressive things to make the world a cleaner, healthier place.
