Surrey604 recently discovered that the LRT construction in Surrey is expecting in 2018 according to the city’s Mayor Linda Hepner. She explained to the CBC, “I was optimistic, and the referendum delayed me, but I fully expect to be in the ground next year on this light rail project.”
The first phase will begin with the TransLink, Metro Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson advised. It will then continue with the Surrey LRT project in addition to the Broadway SkyTrain in Vancouver. The entire project is expected to be a $2 billion investment that will take ten years to complete and is being called the largest investment since 2009 when it comes to regional transit.
What Surrey Can Expect With the New LRT
The city mayor is enthusiastic about the project and predicts the light rail system to be the most sophisticated system on the planet. About 200,000 residents will be able to save more time with a forecasted commute ride of 5 minutes to their next destination.
The Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson mentioned to the press, “The key piece that we need in these next few months is commitment on the major projects in Surrey with rapid transit, the Broadway line extension and the Pattullo Bridge.”
Surrey LRT Funding for The Project
A public communication is not available on funding, and the federal government has not yet determined the financial amount that will be allocated to complete the project.
