On February 17th, Options Community Services launched its first capital fundraising campaign to raise $1.5 million for affordable housing units. The money is currently being raised through a partnership with 50 local women, all of who have pledged to raise $25,000 each in support of this project. Surrey 604 is encouraging public support of this project by featuring each of the 50 Women of options. Today we introduce Bonnie Moy, Real Estate Professional with HomeLife Benchmark Realty.
Tell us your name, a bit about who you are, and your background? *
My name is Bonnie Moy and I have 30 years of experience as a Real Estate Professional, and 40 years as an investor providing residential and commercial rental properties. I have lived in South Surrey for more than 40 years, where I have seen Surrey’s population bloom and grow. I know how important affordable housing is to ensure the future success of the city, both as a whole and within the local community.
What is your job title/what company or organization are you with? *
I am a Real Estate Professional with HomeLife Benchmark Realty.
What achievements in your life are you most proud of? *
I am proud to be working with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and the RCMP to help Create REALTY Watch. This program works to assist in finding missing people. Helping folks find homes and invest in British Columbia real estate is another great achievement that I am proud of.
Why did the Women of Options affordable housing campaign resonate with you? Why are you supporting this initiative? *
I often think of an old Greek Proverb -“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.” Options Community Services is providing a new path to reimagining our systems to help those needing a home and the support needed for a better future! This program offers a real and permanent building, with 100 units to be dedicated to those needing access to affordable housing. This will result in a healthy and safer community for all!
