On February 17th, Options Community Services launched its first capital fundraising campaign to raise $1.5 million for affordable housing units. The money is currently being raised through a partnership with 50 local women, all of who have pledged to raise $25,000 each in support of this project. Surrey 604 is encouraging public support of this project by featuring each of the 50 Women of options. Today we introduce Dianne Watts, the former Surrey City Councillor, Mayor, and Member of Parliament.
Tell us your name, a bit about who you are, and your background? *

I currently am the Board Director for Canfor Corporation & Westshore Terminals. I am also a Political Contributor to several publications, including Global TV, CBC Early Edition, and CKNW.
What achievements in your life are you most proud of? *
On a professional level, I am very proud of the work done during my tenure as the Mayor, specifically in bringing Council and the community together. In this role, I helped to transform the City from a residential suburb of Vancouver to the 2nd largest Metropolitan Core in the Region. We were on the cutting edge of transformational technology that was implemented in the City, as well implemented a robust social network to help those who are less fortunate.
Why did the Women of Options affordable housing campaign resonate with you? Why are you supporting this initiative? *
I have had a close working relationship with Options Community Services for over 20 years. Together we have worked on several community initiatives. I am supporting the Options Affordable Housing project because I believe that Housing is the first step to ensuring stability and long-term success. This housing project will change the lives of so many people and we have an opportunity to effect change and support those in need.
