THE LIVING ROOM AT HOTEL BELMONT EVOLVES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
With bars and nightclubs no longer a viable business model, chef Kai Leitner is bringing experiential dining to the Granville Entertainment District
Vancouver, BC: Originally conceived as a late night party destination, The Living Room at Hotel Belmont is combating the COVID-19 crisis by pivoting to a food focused restaurant and bar where the great menu, funky design, and stellar service will add a missing element to the Granville Entertainment District.
Chef Kai Leitner, previously of Bishops and the runner up for best chef in Vancouver in the 2020 Georgia Straight Golden Plates Awards, has created approachable, house made small plates with fresh and locally sourced ingredients designed for sharing; while Beverage Manager Zach Preston has curated a cocktail menu featuring the colours and flavours of summer, alongside all of the standard classics.
“The hospitality industry as a whole is facing a number of challenges right now, and the bar and nightclub model which made us so successful last year just doesn’t make sense in the current environment.” says Jasmine Mooney, Director of Marketing for Hotel Belmont.
The new and improved menu features 24 dishes from land, garden, and ocean—from Smoked Beef Tartare & a Meat Burgoo and Black Truffle Flatbread, to Cauliflower Fritters, and a Beet Carpaccio with Burrata, to King Crab, and Mussels Rockefeller. Chef Leitner hopes to bring a missing element to the city’s largest entertainment district – food fit for a fine dining environment, but in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
“Our greatest responsibility right now is creating a safe environment for our staff and our guests, ensuring that all regulations and recommendations put in place are being followed, while still having the fun and energetic atmosphere that we’re known for.” Says Mooney. “We recognized that in order to do this, we needed to pivot and really focus on being a great place for dinner and cocktails, rather than just a great place to party.”
About Hotel Belmont: Hotel Belmont opened their trendy 82 room boutique hotel, and their food and beverage offerings The Living Room and The Basement to great fanfare in May 2019 and were recognized as Vancouver’s “Best New Destination” at the 2019 Golden Owl Awards, which recognizes the best of Vancouver’s hospitality industry.
