Kapade Fashion Labels launches new boutique in the heart of downtown Vancouver

Fashion Designer Vaneesha Advani has launched Kapade Fashion Labels a new boutique in the heart of downtown Vancouver as of November 20, 2018. The boutique carries European fashion and accessories and one label from New York.

“Kapade means clothes – I hope to bring a new clothing concept to Vancouver. The concept of the store is to bring in amazing capsule collections from Europe that you can mix and match – making Kapade a one stop shop. It’s all about creating a timeless, classic look.” Advani

Advani will also be carrying her own collection Designs by Sonia made in Eindhoven. The store will serve as the second workshop for her line which she created in Netherlands. Her own jewellery line currently is carried in showrooms in Paris as well as Japan and one of her fans include the infamous Iris Apfel.

The store is located on 440 West Hastings and carries unique holiday gift ideas.

KAPADE FASHION LABELS Q & A

Tell us about Kapade Fashion Labels and the concept behind the store.

Kapade, was just a fluke, I did not put much thought behind Kapade everything was rather organic and came about at the right time. Just a month prior to leasing this place I overheard my mother telling someone that I will be opening a store soon, when I heard that I was upset as I had no plans as such, I just wanted to continue designing my own collection and attend shows as always, work with Japan and Europe.

Month later I was browsing through the net with no serious intent, I came across few places for rent, just curious out of curiosity I called the realtor, who responded right away and showed me the place which I am leasing now. I remember telling her no way, I was ever going to take this place as it was huge.

I kept looking at smaller spaces out of curiosity but now I was starting to become serious. All the smaller spaces I saw I did not like any one of them, the day I was disheartened and wanted to give up, I got call from the same persistent realtor she knows who she is and I am glad she did and rest is history.

As far as labels are concerned I know almost all the designers personally, Daniela of Elementum and myself have known one another from Eindhoven, The Netherlands, we both started designing our collections from there and also did photo shoots together, Mutsaers leather handbags also from Netherlands, I used to go there to have my leather cut and still do, the company has history it is one of the oldest company in Netherlands.

Their handbags are handmade in their factory and are of high quality and high standard, the company was started by the grandfather and now is run by his son and grand daughter. When in Eindhoven I spend time with them in their workshop/factory, it feels like home. NRK, well Ana and myself meet at the shows in New York, I love her collection, buying as a designer is totally a different experience.

What inspired you to launch your own store?

As mentioned above, it just happened more like serendipity one thing after other. Once I made up my mind about the store I knew what I wanted and which collections I wanted to have in the store, I had a vision which was clear, of course the store has a lot of potential and is still work in progress, which is quite apparent as Idid not have much time, from the conception to present it has not even been two months, basically this store as you see was build in less then two months.

What’s your inspiration behind your own collection Designs by Sonia created in Netherlands?

Inspiration for designs by Sonia collection came from my travels to Africa initially, I fell in love with their old beads, I am fascinated by old and new, I like to take old materials and create contemporary designs or take new materials and make them look old. The collection is mainly sold in Europe, in Japan in Plain People stores who are all over Japan and in USA and now also in few selected stores in Canada.

You are bringing in capsule collections from designers all across Europe. Can you tell us about the process of picking each collection and why?

In simple words they all work well together it is like a thyme, you can mix and match just about any piece with another designer’s piece, it is effortless look and yet very today.

Can you tell us what designers you are carrying in the store now?

Nrk: New York, Elementum: Netherlands and Portugal, Petrucha: Spain, Ablesia: Portugal, Henry Christ: Germany and Designs By Sonia: Netherlands, Mutsaers: Netherlands and Uli: Netherlands and few more to be added soon

What can we expect in the future at Kapade Fashion Labels. Are there any particular designers you are hoping to showcase in your store?

Yes, I am planning on adding more designers but will only disclose once those collections are in.

The Change Makers – Episode 4 | Perminder Chohan

I first met Perminder in a small Starbucks in Delta. It was late summer, and it felt like everyone around me was trying to enjoy the outdoors as much as they could before the sun and warmth would trade with the cold and rain of winter here in the lower mainland. The couple ahead of me in line ordered their Cold Brews to refresh themselves before heading back out into the evening sun. There were those, like me, who welcomed the air conditioning and took seats inside.

Paarull, Perminder’s public relations specialist, arranged our meeting. She loved our show, and what we are trying to accomplish with the series, and like any good PR professional, she believes in her client. Up until this point, all I knew of Perminder was the hype. Author of two books, a managing director with over 500 advisors and 7 offices in the lower mainland, and the many charities he is involved with.

They are amazing accomplishments and could make for a great ad campaign, but they are not enough to craft a story. To me, these successes do not make-up a person or a brand, so my desire to meet Perminder was to just listen to his story. This is what I believe is the most important part of crafting video content, stories, and even ads. It’s as much about building relationships as it is understanding all the elements that need to come together.

My turn came up in line, so I ordered a Berry Hibiscus Passion Tea and sat down with Perminder and Paarull. In that two hour conversation over tea, the hype washed away to reveal a very real person. Despite what he has accomplished in his life so far, or the wealth he has earned, he did not want to be remembered for those things. He deeply wanted to be remembered as the kind of person who was there for others.

He was aware that this desire was shaped by his father. Growing up in a small village in India, he would see his father doing his best to help all those who asked. When he was old enough to ask, his father replied and told him that “if you are there for others, others are going to be there when you need them.”

As a young man, he had wild dreams of traveling abroad and making a better life in some far-off country. If you haven’t guessed yet, that far-off country turned out to be Canada. But no matter how far away his new home was, his father’s teaching never left him. He felt as though it was written into his very DNA.

In our conversation, I learned that he firmly believed that if you want to be successful, if you want to make a change, that change begins with you. I don’t know if he noticed, but I could see that this also came from his father’s teaching. How could you be there for others if you were unable to be there for yourself? How can you make a difference in the lives of others if you do not make a change in your own? Change begins with you.

This is what change makers are made of because change begins with one person making a difference one action, one moment at a time.

You cannot overcome your DNA, so despite the challenges that came with immigrating to a foreign country, even in failure and bankruptcy, he was there for others even though it cost him. His tenacity and care for others eventually found their home when he began his career in the financial services and life insurance industry.

Now, as a leader and coach, he teaches his extraordinary secret to business success. Do I have to say it? Have you guessed what that might be? Treat people like they are your family and be there for them. What kind of service or product would you give your family? Only the best.

Please check out Perminder’s website to learn more about him and his foundation. Don’t forget to follow, like, and share this story and others.

VIDEO: Doug McCallum Wins the 2018 Mayoral Race in Surrey

Surrey elects Doug McCallum along with several other of his affiliating councilors, replacing the Surrey First government who’ve served since 2005.

For the second time after his run between 1996 to 2005, McCallum wins the mayoral election by around 15,000 votes compared to his runner-up Tom Gill from Surrey First.

McCallum took the stage to thank his family, friends, fellow colleagues and supporters.

“We will not let you down. We will get it done,” McCallum said.

The new electoral mayor went on the address the first problems he would like to tackle.

“We’re going to take every parking meter on our streets or around a hospital. We’re going to have free parking,” he said as the crowd cheered.

As the first council meeting is a little ways away, McCallum said his plan during the meeting is to stop the production of the light-rail-transit and end the RCMP contract.

“First council meeting, we are going to stop the light-rail and we’re going to start building the SkyTrain,” he said.

“We will withdraw from the RCMP, and we will form our own police force.”

From 1996 – 2005, McCallum was the cities mayor. He attempted to be re-elected but was replaced with Dianna Watts and later lost again to the most recent mayor, Linda Hepner.

After two losses, McCallum says he understands what it’s like to lose.

He addressed his fellow mayoral candidates and said, “I know how hard it is to run. I also know how hard it is to lose elections. So I have a lot of sympathy for them.”

In previous municipality elections, voter turnout is the lowest at approximately 30%.

Despite the low voting numbers, McCallum said he is impressed with the voter turnout especially because of the lines that were developed outside numerous election polls with residents eager to get their vote counted.

“The people of Surrey have spoken,” McCallum said.

Surrey DPAC Organized ‘All Candidates Meeting 2018’ For Board of Trustees Candidates

An All Candidates meeting for Surrey School Board of Trustee candidates was organized by the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) on October 16. The event was held at the Surrey Schools District Education Centre. A video recording of this event will be available on the Surrey DPAC’s website (surreydpac.ca) until after the election. Candidates checked in at 6:20 pm and drew numbers to determine seating arrangements. Candidates were able to display their materials and mingle with attendees before the meeting.

Surrey DPAC’s acting President Jyotika Jasuja called the meeting to order and began by welcoming parents, guests and 21 of the candidates running for the Board of Trustees. Jasuja also appreciatively introduced the current DPAC Board of Directors, Secretary Amanda Grimson, Treasurer Anissa Riemer Ly and Directors Robert Ran, Jagwinder Mahal, Peter Johal (absent), Nicole Cook (absent). Jasuja was proud of this new team’s efforts for their contributions towards this event and regular DPAC activities. She briefly spoke about DPAC and its non partisan role.

“Our DPAC functions at a district level and our aim is to inspire other parents, create awareness and empower the community by sharing the information about available resources that would equip our membership at large with tools to be involved in their children’s education.”

Summarizing, Jasuja advised “We are the parent voice” and emphasized that DPAC is non-partisan and free from political influences. She introduced volunteers Eric O’Dell (moderator) and Simon Wu (photographer/videographer), and thanked them for offering their services. She also acknowledged the presence and media coverage by ZEE TV Canada, which was reflective of their strong community involvement. The meeting was divided into four sections. Candidates began with one-minute introductions, answered pre selected questions from the DPAC Board based on parent concerns, answered written questions from attendees, and gave a 30-second closing statement.

Candidates were also asked to respond to six written questions on major parent concerns. Responses are available at surreydpac.ca and printed copies were also available at the meeting. This was a great interactive platform for all the candidates running for the board of Trustees at the Surrey school board (District #36) and a very good opportunity to connect with the parent members, attendees and the community. 24 candidates for Surrey Board of Trustees had registered with DPAC for the meeting and 21 attended.

Candidates in attendance were Lisa Alexis, Sonia Andhi, Balraj Atwal, Cindy Dalglish, Rina Diaz, Charlene Dobie, Kapil Goyal, Gordon Hepner, Bob Holmes, Aronjit Lageri, Laurie Larsen, Dean McGee, Jasbir Narwal, Diana Ng, Niovi Patsicakis, Julia Poole, Dupinder Kaur Saran, Garry Thind, Gary Tymoschuk, Mary-Em Waddington, and Adele Yu.

Jasuja acknowledged everyone for their presence and wonderful participation. Everyone’s enthusiasm and interest at the event was commendable and admirable. Voting rights are a privilege of democracy. Jasuja closed with an inspiring message to the community that along with exercising the voting rights that a democratic country offers, people must also rise above to eliminate differences that exist in a diverse community and come together supportively to embrace the basic human values and ethical conduct, which will be “a true representation of democracy!”

Overall, a very successful event as it was a warm informative and interactive session at the meeting. Very well organized and executed. Impartial, orderly and friendly conduct set the tone for a great rapport and lighter atmosphere of healthy humor that made everyone comfortable. Thus, the candidates were able to express themselves freely within the set time limits and that was helpful for both the attendees and the Candidates.
